Last year, 20,200 young Londoners approached their council as homeless and so we commissioned The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) to better understand their experiences - what is working and what needs to change. The report, 'On our side - improving services for young people experiencing homelessness' is a stark insight into the challenges young people face and in accessing support and the pressures councils are under to provide it. There are not quick solutions to these issues but it is important to remember there are solutions if national and local government commit to working alongside charities and young people together. Hopefully this report offers a much needed prompt to start driving change and so ideas for how we might collectively begin to make it happen. The evidence submission portal is now live and will be open until the end of the year. ICON is seeking evidence from individuals about the neighbourhoods they live in as well as from organisations such as thinks tanks, academic institutions, charities, community groups, funders and local government. There are five core questions in this initial phase: 1. There are different conceptions/definitions of a neighbourhood, which makes most sense given the Commission’s remit? 2. Why do neighbourhoods matter: what do we know about how different socio-economic needs cluster and interact at the neighbourhood level? 3. How do people experience living in the most deprived neighbourhoods? 4. What are the interventions that have had most impact at a neighbourhood level? 5. What does this mean for building an effective neighbourhood policy both nationally and at regional and local authority levels? For more information and to submit your evidence please go to: https://lnkd.in/e5XvPReh

Are you MAD? After working with charities on their IT and telecoms for a number of years, Stuart noticed a repeat problem where there was insufficient affordable housing for their service users resulting in homelessness, living in shelters, sofa surfing etc. Let's Make a Difference (MAD) was set up to build a different social housing model where businesses, individuals, and investors could all make a positive impact on their community for generations to come. Creating a new way of approaching the problem MAD is putting processes and assets in place that will last for generations. But, they need our support. Come along to our next meeting to find out how we’re all chipping in to support Stuart 😊 #ReferralMarketing #HousingCrisis

🏠 Oxford residents spend on average a whopping 50% of their income on housing rent, compared to the England average of 26%. With such a huge portion of income being spent on rent this can leave little money to pay for food and bills, let alone other essentials. For too many people, life is a case of surviving rather than thriving. We fund grassroots charities in Oxfordshire, many of whom support people in crisis, helping with food, financial advice, mental health support and building longer-term resilience for a more stable and safe life. Find out more about the issues many people face in Oxfordshire by reading our recent report, Oxfordshire Uncovered https://buff.ly/2CGx3Dm How can you help us to tackle inequality in our county? 📢 Share this post to help us reach more people who may want to support 💸 Donate to OCF and get involved in personal, collective or corporate giving https://buff.ly/2X3JRfl #OxUncovered #oxfordshire #philanthropy

NCVO and ACEVO are working closely with the government to develop the Civil Society Covenant - a new framework that aims to reset how government engages with civil society, creating lasting positive changes for charities, community groups, and social enterprises. Why does this matter? For too long, the relationship between civil society and government has been transactional. The Civil Society Covenant seeks to change this by establishing a shared commitment to work together on challenges facing our communities, creating a foundation for resilient, connected, and empowered communities across the UK. The Covenant is built on four guiding principles: 🔹 Recognition of civil society’s independence and value 🔹 Partnership to enhance service delivery and inclusive decision-making 🔹 Participation to ensure communities have a voice in decisions that affect them 🔹 Transparency for open communication and data-sharing How to get involved: Civil society organisations and groups of all sizes, including charities, community groups, social enterprises, cooperatives and funders, are encouraged to share their views and experiences to shape the final framework. Learn more about the Covenant and complete the feedback form by 12 December: https://lnkd.in/egrnCiuu

📢 Former Oxfam GB chief executive Danny Sriskandarajah has called for UK charities to step up in addressing the systems fueling inequality. Speaking at the NPC Ignites conference, he expressed concern that many organisations are becoming complacent and failing to tackle the root causes of socioeconomic struggles. Sriskandarajah urged the sector to "walk the talk" and engage more with the flaws in the UK’s political and economic systems.
