The evidence submission portal is now live and will be open until the end of the year. ICON is seeking evidence from individuals about the neighbourhoods they live in as well as from organisations such as thinks tanks, academic institutions, charities, community groups, funders and local government. There are five core questions in this initial phase: 1. There are different conceptions/definitions of a neighbourhood, which makes most sense given the Commission’s remit? 2. Why do neighbourhoods matter: what do we know about how different socio-economic needs cluster and interact at the neighbourhood level? 3. How do people experience living in the most deprived neighbourhoods? 4. What are the interventions that have had most impact at a neighbourhood level? 5. What does this mean for building an effective neighbourhood policy both nationally and at regional and local authority levels? For more information and to submit your evidence please go to: https://lnkd.in/e5XvPReh

To listen and learn, is something we do at #BESTBusinessGroup so we can collaborate and partner with our fellow members and #local business owners. If you'd like to learn more, email me sally@sallyrule.com and I'll be happy to chat to you about the wealth of #wisdom in this #supportive business group. #surrey #networking #business
We had a full room of local #business owners to attend the presentation from our #Mayor and Councillor, Sallie Barker, MBE. The #variety of her life experiences shaped her #values and guided her decisions in her choices in life. If you get the chance, do invite her as a guest at local events ... she is engaging, is interested and wants to help. We all need her as Mayor and Councillor, to make things happen. To shine a light on small charities to raise awareness, to make connections within the community, to listen and work with the councillors and to highlight all the good work carried out by unpaid volunteers. #guildford #surrey #business #councillor

Please sign this and share if you can - it has just two days to go. 1 in 52 people aged 16-24 were experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness last year. We need a national strategy that will provide the direction and support needed to address: (1) the many forms that homelessness can take - from rough sleeping to sofa surfing to unsafe homes; (2) as well as the specific needs and challenges faced by young people - from the increased likelihood of family breakdown as a cause of homelessness to the decreased likelihood of receiving support from local authorities. We need a national strategy to end youth homelessness.
🚨 WE NEED YOUR SIGNATURES BY 21 MARCH ✏️ Last year 136,000 young people approached their council for housing support, yet there is still no strategy to #EndYouthHomelessness. That’s why, along with 120 other charities, we are in support of a Government petition to ensure the issue is debated in Parliament. If you’ve ever been inspired by our work or thought you could do more to help end youth homelessness then this is your moment. ✏️ SIGN the petition >>> https://lnkd.in/exFKGpjc ⏩ SHARE this post on your socials 📱 SEND this to friends, family and colleagues via WhatsApp and ask them to sign too. #PlanForThe136k #TogetherWeCan

Local businesses are the backbone of our communities. They bring unique products, create jobs, and give back to local causes. Here’s why it’s more important than ever to support them: 1. Preserve Community Character: Local shops give our towns their unique charm. 2. Boost the Local Economy: Every dollar spent locally helps our community thrive. 3. Enjoy Unique Products: Find one-of-a-kind items you won’t see anywhere else. 4. Create Jobs: Small businesses employ nearly half of the workforce in the U.S. 5. Support Local Initiatives: Local businesses donate more to local charities and causes. Let’s make a difference together! 💪 #SupportLocal #SmallBusiness #ShopLocal #Community #ProfilePlace

Helping those in need is commendable! Here are some ways to offer assistance: 1. **Volunteer:** Offer your time and skills to local charities or organizations serving the underprivileged. 2. **Donate:** Give to reputable charities or directly to individuals in need. 3. **Advocate:** Raise awareness about poverty-related issues and advocate for policy changes to address them. 4. **Support Local Businesses:** Purchase from small businesses in economically disadvantaged areas to stimulate growth. 5. **Educate:** Offer mentorship or educational resources to empower individuals to improve their circumstances. 6. **Provide Essentials:** Donate food, clothing, or hygiene products to shelters or food banks. 7. **Offer Employment Opportunities:** If possible, provide job opportunities or mentorship programs to help people gain employment skills. Remember, even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone's life.

If the government and institutions don’t learn that THIS new generation of young people are here to change the world, there will severe socioeconomic repercussions that will damage the UK. They are not driven by money and power like the past generations. They WILL make a difference whether you like it or not. We, the older and the elderly, need to wake up and smell the coffee. The old ways of running society and a country have been found wanting. The smarter ones from us will realise that we need to create the space for the young to lead…and just get out of their way. #youngleaders #leadership #youthleaders #britisheconomy
Hear Aliesha talk about the importance of truly listening to young people when making decisions about them. An important message for all political parties as they finalise their manifestos on issues like #NationalService and #VotesAt16 Aliesha was speaking at the UK House of Lords as part of Speakers Trust's #MyMaidenSpeech, a unique programme giving young people the confidence, skills and opportunity to share their perspectives on issues that are important to them. Aliesha was highlighting the great work done in her local area by Young Ealing Foundation who equip grassroots youth charities, supporters and decision makers, to open up a brighter future for Ealing’s children and young people. #NationalService #VotesAt16

1moThere is really powerful data here, that starkly demonstrates the challenges that young people in Sussex are facing. And the report doesn’t even include the cost of housing in the county. Everyone should be entitled to reach their potential at every stage of life. We have a long way to go towards that, but there are many brilliant local charities that are doing everything possible to help people be the best they can be.
