Our Wyndham Hotels & Resorts Q3 earnings report today highlighted another strong quarter. Our President and CEO Geoff Ballotti shares: “Our teams around the world once again delivered exceptional results, executing our long-term growth strategy and achieving 7% growth in comparable adjusted EBITDA fueled by continued system expansion, higher royalty rates and growth in our ancillary revenues. We awarded 10% more franchise contracts domestically this quarter, driving 5% growth in our development pipeline. Stabilizing RevPAR trends and improving comparisons coupled with increased infrastructure demand are expected to pave the way for improved results in the coming quarters. We remain steadfast in our long-term strategy, aimed at delivering outstanding value to our guests, franchisees and shareholders to whom we’ve returned nearly $380 million year-to-date in the form of dividends and share repurchases." Demand-driven pricing is something that hotels and airlines have been doing for years, adjusting prices based on customer demand. However, this practice is less common in the Pubs & Bars sector. We've examined pricing during the England vs. Denmark game to see to what extent operators are flexing their pricing. Our analysis shows that "surge pricing" occurred in approximately 300 venues out of c.5k Managed Pubs & Bars. Two different operators implemented this strategy, with the most frequent increase being 30p per pint. Prices rose by 30p or more in 83% of these sites and by 60p or more in 11% of sites. HDI's pricing databases now include site-by-site, product-by-product data for all food and drink prices in over 18,000 UK hospitality venues. Used alongside our card spending data, we're able to provide unique insights on the likely price sensitivity of individual sites, in order to help operators optimise their pricing strategies. However, it’s not something that has been commonplace in the world of Pubs & Bars 🍻. Hospitality Data Insights (HDI) delved into pricing during the England vs. Denmark game ⚽, to understand the extent to which operators have been flexing their prices. It's amazing that dynamic pricing still seems to surprise people. Holiday prices have gone up in the summer for as long as I can remember and happy hour certainly existed in the 90's when I was a "frequent flyer" at Smollensky's on the Strand. Maybe it's only when prices go up that people object? Airlines, train companys and hotel's have been yielding their rates for some time now, that said, I still speak to hoteliers today that seem happy enough to work with seasonal pricing.
