⛄️ Day Four Of Our ASB Advent - today from associate Rochelle Largan… talking about the power of our use of language! ⛄️ “Remember your customers and residents (if you’re housing) do not work in ASB, so it’s unlikely that they will know what the legal terms are or what certain actions mean. It can be really overwhelming for victims of ASB to take everything in so make sure you’re explaining things simply or your raising awareness and knowledge of how you manage ASB as a service. Things roll easily off of our tongues as practitioners but they are not understood so easily. For example if you're talking about a witness statement to support your action, make sure the victim/customer knows what a statement is, how it's taken, how its used, the difference between hearsay and named, why we need one, how it will be used as evidence and assure them how easy you will make that process for them.” A great reminder of having a customer centric approach in your role…

The Ministry of Employment, in collaboration with the Gibraltar Football Association (GFA), has launched its new football programme at HMP Windmill Hill. The programme aims to harness the power of football to encourage teamwork, discipline and personal growth, through coaching sessions, training practices, classroom activities and friendly matches. Minister Santos presented the 9 successful inmates who completed the inaugural course with certificates. Innovative programmes such as this one are crucial to supporting individuals in their journey towards rehabilitation and reintegration once they leave prison. We would like to extend our gratitude to the GFA and HMP staff for making this initiative such a success!

This is so important for improving the support for survivors of modern slavery and exploitation.
Hope for Justice, British Red Cross and The Snowdrop Project are preparing to pilot the Independent Modern Slavery Advocate® (IMSA) model across the UK. The aim of the IMSA model is to ensure that all survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking have access to a trained independent advocate. At the link, we share recent updates about the project, including the development of a new IMSA qualification, the role of our first co-opted board member, SOHTIS, and welcoming Bethan Hunt, IMSA Model Development Manager, who is taking forward this next phase as the partners build the infrastructure to enable delivery of the multi-year pilot. As part of this, IMSAs would be hosted at a range of organisations across the UK and the model would be rigorously tested in a range of settings, all in preparation for a national roll-out. Find out more at the link.
