Public Enemy Number One. 🤬 The Roster of Care. 👎 If I had to name one of the biggest issues in SIL today - my answer would be the RoC. The RoC does not work It cannot be that bad Rick, I hear you say? → The RoC is designed for the individual → But needs to be applied to a group situation → And is based on ratios which has no true connection to the plan. At Resolv we work with SIL providers every day who are leaking hundreds of thousands of dollars due to rostering issues created by the RoC. If you are looking for a better way, I'd love to have a chat with you #NDIS #NDISprovider #SupportedAccommodation #Resolv

Confession time (Something that regularly lives rent free in my mind.) A few years back when I was a Deputy Safeguarding Lead and Head of Year in a secondary school, I took my students on a week-long trip to Belgium. (Obviously with 5 other staff) 🌦 Now, being a history buff, on the last day I planned a trip to Tyne Cot Cemetery. I thought I had everything under control, But then, 'cue dramatic music', I managed to get on the wrong coach and walk all the way to the back, completely oblivious to the fact that it was a coach for an all-girls school from the North of England. 🤦♂️ I noticed my mistake when I looked out the window to see a number of my students up against the window of the coach I was supposed to be on, laughing uncontrollably at my obvious mistake. 😲 I tried to play it cool, pretended to check my clipboard, and even said, "Everything looks in order here." I then started to make my way off their coach and even said "thank you" to the confused driver as I walked past them. 😶 I calmly walked on to my coach, checked all students were there, then instructed our driver, politely, to start making a move…and quickly. 🚌 A few observations about mine and Cornerstone Safeguarding's LinkedIn posts: 1) We mean it when we say we really do know what it's like to work on the front line, 2) Even the best of us make mistakes (especially when we're sleep-deprived from herding a bunch of teenagers), and 3) It's so important to encourage staff and students to challenge things that don't look right. (Like, for example, a random guy getting on your coach and walking to the back. 👀) Please make me feel better about this experience and share your own stories and confessions in the comments. 👇 #SchoolTrips #DSLConfessions #Safeguarding #Embarrassing

ECPAT UK responds to the Home Office evaluation of local NRM decision-making pilots. Findings show: ▶ Timely decisions ▶ Improved multi-agency working ▶ Increased awareness at the local level of the NRM process. We remain critical of the current limitations in particular the exclusion of children who are 100 days from their 18th birthday, age disputed young people, children being considered for a Public Order Disqualification. We urge the ukhomeoffice content to commit to a full roll out of these pilots and remove the barriers for children currently excluded. https://lnkd.in/eq9YsjGz

Today, I had the opportunity to attend the AFRUCA training on the "Safeguarding Needs of Children in Black and Ethnic Communities in the Context of Culture & Beliefs," alongside a small group of local Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs), Deputy DSLs (DDSLs), support workers, and long-term colleagues from Medway. The session proved to be incredibly valuable and thought-provoking. 🤩 I’m already in an Internet hole! 🕳️ I know this is the start of a massive hyper focus 💪🏻 - exploring how we can better address unconscious bias at our school. Especially as I highlighted discussions on intersectionality and adultification during our whole-school safeguarding training at the start of the year. The need for professional curiosity in this area is more apparent than ever. When I began working with children , I remember reading Serious Case Reviews (SCRs) into the early hours. I worked in Early Years from 2010 - 2017 and this sector was/is underpinned by the Every Child Matters framework - introduced following the tragic death of Victoria Climbié. This evening, I plan to revisit this SCR and reflect on how my perspective and understanding have evolved over the years, particularly in response to changes in social awareness and shifts in the way we approach safeguarding. #Safeguarding #UnconsciousBias #Intersectionality #Adultification #CulturalCompetence #professionalcuriosity https://afruca.org

#TraumaAware Please sign - Due to the collective effort of teams of thought leaders in trauma-informed education for Australia, a Declaration for a Trauma-Aware Education Workforce has just been released. This Declaration outlines recommendations for government to make trauma-informed education available, consistent, and sustainable throughout Australia, in all schools and early childhood education and care programs. This work builds upon the “National Guidelines for Trauma-Aware Education” which were developed through a collaboration between the Queensland University of Technology and the Australian Childhood Foundation in 2021. Please take a look at the Declaration and consider if you would like to “sign” your support on the website as an individual and/or whether your organisation, business, school, program, etc. would like to “sign” as an organisation. If you wish to “sign” as an organisation, you will have the opportunity to upload your organisations logo to the website. The goal is to collect as many “signatories” as possible before presenting to government in 2025. So, we would also like for you to consider sharing the Declaration Website with as many colleagues and partnering organisations as you can in the near future. There are ways to do this via social media via icons on the website, if this is helpful. Please note that no personal details of any individual will be made public on the Declaration website.
