Corinne Rowe and Nathan Chambers are exceptional ambassadors for the British Red Cross and a fantastic example of the brilliant staff and volunteers that support our vital work. For decades Corinne and Nathan have been huge figures in the organisation, giving up their time to support vulnerable people when they need it most. I am delighted to see them recognised in the New Years Honours, and I would like to pass on my congratulations on this richly-deserved honour and thank Corinne and Nathan for their continued passion British Red Cross

Embrace the season with self-kindness. The holidays can be a difficult time for some, and it's OK to feel overwhelmed sometimes. Practise self-kindness by taking time for yourself, prioritising your wellbeing and giving yourself permission to rest. Your mental health matters, so take a step back when you need to. 🫶 #SelfKindness

20 years ago today, on the 26 December 2004, millions of people's lives were changed in an instant by the biggest natural disaster of the 21st century. More than 230,000 people were killed, and hundreds of thousands injured, when a major earthquake on the Western Coast of Sumatra, Indonesia unleashed a series of deadly tsunamis. Dr Mahesh Gunasekara was a hospital medical director, about to start a new role as a director of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society, when the disaster occurred. He experienced first-hand the overwhelming scale of need, and the unprecedented coordination effort that took place across the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to support those affected. The disaster impacted at least 15 countries and 2.3 million people - it destroyed lives, homes and livelihoods. Today, around the world, we remember all those affected by this tragic disaster. ❤️
