No matter how talented you are, if your availability is inconsistent, all you are is hype. There's no need to waste time broadcasting what you intend to do when you should do it silently. The more attention you draw by speaking about intent, the larger target you become. Speak less and do more. Listen twice as much as you talk.

Over the years, we have witnessed the corrosive impact of labels and stigmas on students. Yet, streaming and ability grouping have also proven effective in addressing the varied learning capabilities of children as they progress through school. But how can an education system that must cater to such diverse needs avoid the creeping labels and stigmas? Recent reforms may help dismantle some of the long-standing psychological barriers. However, the persistent grip of these labels suggests the importance of a flexible system—one capable of confronting the challenges as they evolve. In my latest column for The Straits Times, I explore this conundrum at the heart of education policy. #education #streaming #moe

The semester isn’t officially finished until the numbers are in. Now I can focus my attention on the summer work projects until fall semester starts in August. Tubi's growth is impressive: 80 million monthly active users, and 46% of its audience is Black. But will it stay that way? Or will Tubi follow the Fox playbook? Fox, Tubi's parent company, got its start in broadcast in the early 90s with a strong focus on Black sitcoms and shows, like In Living Color, Martin, and Living Single. It focused on an underserved audience to build its ratings. That focus was temporary though. Fox leveraged its audience to land major sports packages and moved on to shows like That 70s Show, Ally McBeal, Malcolm in the Middle. In the 2000s, Fox had fewer shows targeted toward the viewers who helped build its base. Fox wasn't alone, UPN and The WB followed a similar trend in their programming patterns. The video streaming era is quite different than broadcast TV, but what will Tubi's future hold? We broke it all down on the latest Trapital memo. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/e3Muhn2w What are your thoughts on Tubi?

A tip for you incoming broadcast producers and reporters on clarity. Let’s take Louisiana’s current special session for example. It’s tough for us to write about, right? Staring at that screen… Pretend you’re explaining HB 1 to a high school teacher. Would you feel confident in your answer? If the answer is “no,” then go read more about HB1. In five minutes, you’ll see results. The more you know the material, the easier those stories are to tell. Ask your high school teacher. #producers #reporters #broadcastnews
