I am privileged to support the Professional Females of the Future event in Manchester this week, aimed to inspire female students to explore their career options by providing them with valuable insights into the world of apprenticeships in a variety of sectors. We'll cover many topics including how female professionals can use their positions to create opportunities for other females. Share any learnings I have from my career path, and provide examples of successful initiatives or programs within BT that promote diversity and inclusion. If you had one pearl of wisdom to impart to today's Young Professional, Apprentice, or Student, what would it be?

Interesting and largely positive findings in the new QAA report on perceptions of Degree Apprenticeships (DA). However, it is important to note that employer perception of diversity is not the same as diversity. We know from previous research DA diversity stats are poor and this report seems to dismiss that. With that in mind, shouldn’t we actually be worried that employers seem to think DAs diversify workplaces if they don’t? There are findings in this new report that back this up. For example, 45% of respondents undertaking DAs have existing degrees, this speaks more to the “middle class grab” perspective than to opening up diversity, access and inclusion. Apprenticeship programs are important components in the talent strategy whether in the Federal/Public or Commercial/Private sectors. As more private/public partnerships emerge - it is important to recognize providers that have proven effective and true apprenticeship programs that work versus less mature programs or rebranded bootcamp programs. Smoothstack truly shines in this apprenticeship model - helping our partners scale net new talent quickly and effectively!
Apprenticeship programs continue to gain momentum, helping to solve a few key critical challenges faced by today’s employers: 🧑🏽💻 not enough skilled talent (in tech, in Smoothstack’s case) 👫 a lack of employee diversity, including race and gender ⚖️ a supply and demand imbalance across many industries https://bit.ly/3WwSwYF

Pathways to Purpose is organized around four themes designed to connect students with post-secondary opportunities including: - Exposing students to colleges, careers and businesses. - Equipping students with soft skills, leadership and financial literacy training. - Empowering students with college and career mentoring, social-emotional support, career and personality assessments and ACT/SAT prep sessions. - Engaging students in internships, job shadowing, apprenticeships and community college events. The goal for each graduating student is that they secure post-secondary placement by enrolling in either college, military, or trade school. By earning a diploma and receiving preparedness training while in high school, students are more likely to earn admittance into post-secondary opportunities and succeed once enrolled. The post-secondary placement rate for Elevate Pathways to Purpose students is 73% higher than the average rate for non-Elevate students. https://lnkd.in/eMvxddYx

Southeast New Mexico College Workforce Development is asking for contact from local employers interested in non-credit employee training programs that result in an industry-recognized credential or endorsement, internships, and apprenticeships. The purpose is to develop an implementation plan for state funding appropriated for Fiscal Year 2025 through Fiscal Year 2027. Below is language from House Bill 2 (HB2): For New Mexico community colleges and regional universities to pay up to the full cost of student tuition and fees for workforce training courses not eligible for other financial aid and that result in an industry-recognized credential or endorsement. This funding may also be used to subsidize costs of students involved in apprenticeships or internships. To express your interest, please contact: Monty Harris, Vice President of Workforce Development (575) 234-9396 workforce@senmc.edu Southeast New Mexico College
