Growing up, dinner-time conversations centred around governance and business models. Normal, right? It was the influence of my Father, Dr. Peter Chandra, a veteran Australian Institute of Company Directors facilitator, that initially interested me in good governance and its make-or-break role in an organisation. His passion for using business as a way to lift people out of poverty and how governance is the vehicle by which integrity and accountability are established showcased the literally life-changing effects that business has on people. ✨My first 'real' exposure to boards was as a PwC grad in the Executive Remuneration team where I got to advise ASX-listed CEOs' pay increases. :/ ✨I then held various secretariate roles where I got to be a fly-on-the-wall for the most extraordinary board and advisory board meetings (good and bad). ✨Landed my first board role in my late 20s and continued on various boards ever since! … and now? Now I am sitting on a plane because I'm about to do the Company Directors Course with the AICD this coming week! It's a pinch-me moment where, due to the generosity of others, myself and a whole bunch of other amazing female board members (or soon-to-be) get to be strengthened and equipped for the role of a Director. 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘬 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘥-𝘵𝘩𝘦-𝘴𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴. Let's talk about VUCA – ever heard? It’s short for: Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity. Pretty sure that you can all relate to these buzzwords from your professional experiences. My department that takes care of Financial Reporting for ALDI SOUTH Group is counteracting VUCA on a day-to-day basis. We need to distill the essence of our business development for management. Financial transparency in a simplified way is key to informed decision-making - in a VUCA world in which you get easily lost in detail. In order to be focused and to deliver focus in professional life, we also need to have our personal strategies to define our own North Stars. I like hiking to relax - reflect - recharge to define my personal North Start but also to use the energy for a new phase of defining the North Star at work in the VUCA world. In order to keep pace with future external developments that drive often internal organisational implications, we’ve started building up a Reporting Governance team. A Reporting Governance team that defines the North Star when it comes to our internal Financial Reporting. A North Star that ensures that we understand our Business results in very simplified terms. [...] Eight firms on our list earned stars in all 27 categories, and they were the same top performers as last year. But this year, Accenture led that pack—bumping McKinsey & Company from the head of the list—with Accenture receiving 26 5-star ratings and one 4-star rating, while McKinsey received 24 5-star ratings and three 4-star ratings. For the second year in a row, Deloitte earned 25 5-star ratings and two 4-star ratings. The other five firms that received stars in all 27 categories (specifically, 4- and 5-star ratings) were Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Bain &Company, KPMG, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and EY."
