Growing up, dinner-time conversations centred around governance and business models. Normal, right? It was the influence of my Father, Dr. Peter Chandra, a veteran Australian Institute of Company Directors facilitator, that initially interested me in good governance and its make-or-break role in an organisation. His passion for using business as a way to lift people out of poverty and how governance is the vehicle by which integrity and accountability are established showcased the literally life-changing effects that business has on people. ✨My first 'real' exposure to boards was as a PwC grad in the Executive Remuneration team where I got to advise ASX-listed CEOs' pay increases. :/ ✨I then held various secretariate roles where I got to be a fly-on-the-wall for the most extraordinary board and advisory board meetings (good and bad). ✨Landed my first board role in my late 20s and continued on various boards ever since! … and now? Now I am sitting on a plane because I'm about to do the Company Directors Course with the AICD this coming week! It's a pinch-me moment where, due to the generosity of others, myself and a whole bunch of other amazing female board members (or soon-to-be) get to be strengthened and equipped for the role of a Director.
