Two of my greatest passions: 1) Providing editorial support to bring out the powerful messages in a piece of writing. 2) Fostering accessibility for everyone in cultural spaces. Both of these came together when I got to serve as an editor of "Making Inclusive Museums Now," a publication from JSA/MIXdesign and The Architectural League of New York. The report addresses going beyond code compliance when designing inclusive museums, shining a spotlight on insights and best practices directly from practitioners in the field and people with lived experience. If you work in a museum or cultural space, I hope you'll read, share, and save for future reference. #AccessibleDesign #InclusiveDesign #CulturalAccess #Museums #Disability #Accessibility #A11y #LinkedInTopVoices

A recent article in the #newyorktimes explains how leading museums are removing Native American displays due to new federal rules. It seems we are at the beginning of a long overdue reassessment of the ethics behind displaying cultural artifacts. The Level Studio Architecture team thought it was important to weigh in on this to discuss the importance of cultural respect, Indigenous rights, representation and inclusion, educational value, ethical responsibility, and evolving legal compliance issues. ❗ Allow us to reintroduce ourselves: Just over three years ago, the Institute of Contemporary Art, San Diego announced its formation. Since then, we have presented 24 exhibitions with local and international artists who represent a broad diversity of identities, cultures, and perspectives from around the world. In this time, we have reached over 10,000 children, adults, and seniors through our educational programs, and nearly 200,000 visitors to our exhibitions and events. About a year ago, with support from the Tippett Foundation, we reexamined our organizational identity; how we had evolved and where we were headed. Many of you participated in a community survey to support this effort. We wanted to clearly express what it is that we do and how that sets us apart. The result of this investigation was a small, but powerful transformation: we realized that we exist not for what we do, but for why we do it. We exist to serve others by responding to today’s challenges, anticipating the relevant topics of tomorrow, and building a better world for future generations through contemporary art. Our organization is a place for experimentation, and art allows us to connect to each other in powerful ways. ICA San Diego is a space for everyone. All are welcome. 🌟 We are proud to announce our new vision statement: ICA San Diego is a living laboratory for expanding the transformational power of art to build vibrant communities. ✨ We Spark Curiosity: We encourage people to take risks and ask challenging questions. ✨ We Open Doors: We remove barriers to contemporary art by offering exhibitions and events free of charge. We make space for people to be inspired, disagree, and learn from each other. ✨ We Connect the Dots: Contemporary Art can be hard to understand! Our learning tools help people find parallels between art and their everyday lives. What does this mean for you? It means that by being part of the ICA San Diego community you are making our region a better place to live for all. Your presence and support allows us to bring art and ideas to hundreds of thousands of individuals and change the lives of future generations. Our commitment to you means that we create experiences where artists, audiences, and art actively engage with each other. We develop learning tools centered on contemporary art and we foster the contemporary art ecosystem in the San Diego region. This is done by commissioning artists, offering them space to create and grow professionally; by expanding the art collecting community; providing opportunities for students and young artists to enhance their skills; and by offering a safe space for the community to ask challenging questions. How can you support us? ↙ First, Show up! Attend our exhibitions and events, participate in our programs. Or, contact us to learn how your business or organization can partner with us: advancement@icasandiego.org. www.icasandiego.org

There’s a reason why the Knowledge Management Centre at the National Institute of Design is not called a library. The KMC houses not only books, but also Prototypes, Board Games, Student Graduation Projects, Rare Textile pieces & Manuscripts, Audio & Video Tapes, Cassettes, Magazines and so much more! Introducing EyeSpy! What is EyeSpy? EyeSpy is a fresh student initiative to enable the NID community to interact more with the Knowledge Management Centre at NID, Ahmedabad and its resources. It’s called the KMC Curatorial Club! Why did it start? A group of 6 seniors came together and decided they wanted to gain a lot more from the KMC. Each of the founding members had a selfish motive behind joining EyeSpy - ranging from starting conversations, accessing gatekept resources, or just the joy of playing board games. These selfish motives came together to form EyeSpy - the KMC Curatorial Club, which was created for the community. There is so much hidden knowledge at the KMC that students don’t know about! EyeSpy bridges the gap between these design resources and students. What does EyeSpy do? We carefully curate resources from the KMC and bring them out to the NID community through interactive displays, exhibitions, student-led workshops, faculty talks and community activities! EyeSpy's Manifesto: A detailed manifesto was made by the founding members and the future generations of EyeSpy are inspired to live by it! The vision of EyeSpy is to decentralize, delocalise, and democratize information while making physical and cognitive space for this information. We aim to be inspirational, innovative and introductory - an initial gateway to any topic at hand. EyeSpy strives to be interdisciplinary because we see disciplines as not estranged, but entangled with one another. Lastly, we aim to illuminate; in order to make knowledge accessible, light must be shed on it appropriately. EyeSpy would not have been possible without the efforts of Aayush Mahale, Ahan S, AMULYA VIJAY DESHMUKH, Cyril M, Suhani Chheda, Razeen Mohammed, Vidit Jain, Rohit Paranjape, Javed Ali and Sahil Thappa. Lalitha Poluru, Anil Bhai and the KMC staff at NID, Ahmedabad have been a huge support in carrying EyeSpy forward. Check out the process and origin of EyeSpy: https://lnkd.in/d5hT5QMH
