📚 How should public digital art evolve with cities? Executive Director Cynthia Noble's essay in Fast Company published today entitled "Evolving cities, evolving façades: public digital art can make our cities better" expands on the question. "When planning and placing public artwork in a shared space, the key is to envision all possible outcomes of how viewers will experience the art and how those outcomes contribute to or detract from the social goods we want in our future cities." Cynthia notes. Read more from Fast Company here: https://bit.ly/3XpNwpI

WHAT MAKES ATLANTA SO DAMN ARTISTIC? As of 2021, 52% of Atlanta’s population is African American, and that identity crucially informs Atlantan art. Add to that a combination of rich cultural heritage, a vibrant arts scene with many nationally acclaimed art institutions. Then throw in a vast diversity of artistic expression across all forms of art and you get a true hotbed. There's a lot of creativity in Atlanta, and appropriately, the 2024 Creative Placemaking Communities summit was held there this week. Atlanta is a CREATIVE PLACEMAKING demonstration in itself. _________ Torque Real Estate Marketing TORQUE is a real estate marketing agency bringing insight and awareness to the emergence of human experience, properties and the community. #atantarealestate #office #commercialrealestate #architecture #realestate #realestateindustry #marketingagency #realestatemarketing #marketingagency

Big changes could be on the horizon for Congress Avenue... Congress Avenue Urban Design Initiative (CAUDI) has proposed transforming a section of Congress Avenue into a pedestrian-friendly plaza. The initiative suggests turning the blocks between 7th and 11th streets into a vibrant community space featuring interactive art installations, pop-up exhibits, live music performances, and free programming. CAUDI’s vision also includes painting the asphalt with murals that could change over time, replacing parking zones with decks, and improving the health of trees. According to ATX Today, a large portion of the project has already secured funding through the 2020 Austin Mobility Bond. The balance of the project still awaits financing. Austin residents can voice their opinions on the proposed designs at the Downtown Austin Space Activation events on October 22nd and 26th. Austinites, what are your thoughts on these proposed changes? #austinrealestate #residentialrealestate #amyklinerealtor

Really interesting article shared by Mark Mobbs. Instant thought is that this could be a response to "top down" place branding and development decisions, without sufficient community engagement [where community also includes of course key sectors that should be thriving in your place]. But I think that may be a trite response. What it's really about I guess is how can places develop in a way that improves quality of life through attracted investment / jobs but also creates the right environment for creativity and entrepreneurship not only in business but also in the arts and culture.
Really pleased to have Laura Havlin on Design Week today, looking at how Manchester creatives have co-opted the city's famous visual language to protest against the city's "incessant gentrification." Laura raises important questions about what happens when a city's creative culture gets subverted. A great piece and exactly the sort of thing I want DW to do more of. For most of my career I’ve taken my creative agency very seriously. That gave me the opportunities to work in an array of sectors from place-based research in vernacular architecture, digital platforms for civic engagement, to internal communications to build collaborative global teams. I couldn’t have navigated the skills needed for these works without my upbringing in the arts and disciplinary training in architecture. The embodied knowledge in heuristics and a deep understanding of aesthetic principles are foundational to my multidisciplinary practice as an artist, designer, and strategist. I truly believe that artistic expression and cultural productions can reach beyond spectacles for consumption and generate new approaches to face a future of uncertainties. What role does arts and culture play in your practice?
