Something to read: how the values of welcoming and including diverse people reflect on the design (of spaces, content and experiences). In other words, when theory becomes practice.

Changing expectations in workplace design, sustainability, and the use of Artificial Intelligence in the architectural profession were topics discussed by Mark Cavagnero and fellow architects and designers at Bisnow's Bay Area Architecture and Design Summit in San Francisco last week. More than 280 people were in attendance. Mark touched on the use of daylight, acoustics and the human elements of a workspace along with use of AI in the architectural design process. “We’ve had to really focus on what it means to be in a space, any space, whether it’s a home or a downtown office building for hours and hours and hours. There has to be this overlay about how it comes together, block by block, neighborhood by neighborhood and district by district, and for better or worse that’s how we have cities with character.” Follow the link below to learn more about this discussion. #architecture #architecturaldesign

Flexible intimate spaces. This is a project that I hope to see very soon, with a symbolic, cultural, creative, and distinctly Italian significance. Envisioned for years as a significant international cultural establishment in the heart of Lower Manhattan, the Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC) stands as the final piece and cultural cornerstone of the 2003 initiative to reconstruct the World Trade Center site following the tragedy of 9/11. PAC NYC serves as both a cultural hub and a testament to the transformative power of the arts. Its striking metamorphosis is remarkable: by day, it presents itself as a sturdy, monolithic structure, only to become a luminous, translucent cube after nightfall. This transformation is made possible through the remarkable illumination expertise of the Italian brand Flos, which has turned the venue into a true masterpiece — a result of the innovative lighting concept crafted by Tillotson Design Studio. 🙌 What’s your take? # 300 ART, United States 👉 More contents on our website, the link to the featured news is in the first comment below. 🎯 If you want to learn more about our transformative approach to generating growth (yes, what we call innovation marketing!), feel free to write us privately. Day 6 #ArtIntensiveBerlinDiary2024 (part 1) Today, we immersed ourselves in one of the most defining aspects of Berlin's contemporary cultural identity: its street art. Often regarded as the street art capital of the world, Berlin is a living canvas, with graffiti and murals that express a diverse range of social, political, and artistic messages. Our journey began in the vibrant district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, a neighborhood that serves as an open-air gallery for some of the city's most iconic works of urban art. As we explored the streets on foot, we encountered murals that sparked conversations about the intersections of art, activism, and community. Our guide @lujancordaro provided insightful context on the artists behind these works—their influences, techniques, and the socio-political narratives that shape their creations. The juxtaposition of historic buildings with contemporary graffiti reminded us how Berlin's past and present constantly interact, transforming public spaces into dynamic sites of expression. After absorbing the energy of the city’s artistic pulse, we took a moment to pause at a local café, where we participated in a playful yet thoughtful collective sketching session, inspired by the techniques of the Dadaists. This collaborative exercise, much like street art itself, emphasized spontaneity and the power of collective creativity. The experience was open to all skill levels, creating an inclusive space where creativity flowed freely.offers This day was a reminder of Berlin’s unique role as a hub of artistic innovation and community-driven art forms. Whether you’re an art student, a professional, or simply someone with a curiosity for the visual language of cities, today offers valuable insights into the creative forces that shape Berlin’s urban landscape. #ArtIntensiveBerlin #StreetArtInFocus #GraffitiAndCulture #BerlinUrbanArt #PublicSpacesAsCanvas #CreativeResearch #DadaistInspiration #FriedrichshainKreuzberg #CulturalExploration #OctoberInBerlin #ArtResidency #UrbanNarratives

Two of my greatest passions: 1) Providing editorial support to bring out the powerful messages in a piece of writing. 2) Fostering accessibility for everyone in cultural spaces. Both of these came together when I got to serve as an editor of "Making Inclusive Museums Now," a publication from JSA/MIXdesign and The Architectural League of New York. The report addresses going beyond code compliance when designing inclusive museums, shining a spotlight on insights and best practices directly from practitioners in the field and people with lived experience. If you work in a museum or cultural space, I hope you'll read, share, and save for future reference. #AccessibleDesign #InclusiveDesign #CulturalAccess #Museums #Disability #Accessibility #A11y #LinkedInTopVoices

I was struck by this quote from Javier Sainz de los Terreros of the Museo Nacional del Prado when speaking about museum patrons at the NEXTIN Summit in Madrid: “They are now empowered”, he said. “They want to take part in decision making and effect change. Museums have now become listeners.” This sums up the shift as we move from a content-centric world to a community-centric world. It's no long just about just creating content for audiences to passively consume. It's now about creating spaces where fans can come together, connect with each other, and actively shape the experience. Of course, creating this space is a lot easier if you already have a museum. But just providing a space isn't enough. You have to design it to facilitate connections, not just for consumption. As museums strive to be more accessible, the architectural response does not need to be an expected or formulaic one. https://lnkd.in/gvVGyixZ
