These X-Men drawings continue to teach me that faces are super hard to draw. This will be the final update and shoutout for May! I owe a huge thank you to our most recent donors. Thank you so much to Cassandra Cheung, Connie La, Tracy Kirchner, Nicholas Baitoo, LCSW, Kenny Azama, and Chelsea F.! You all are so amazing! Unless something miraculous happens today, it looks like we will be ending May $1785 short of our goal. That still means we raised $3215 together this month, which is incredible! Who knows, maybe a flood of donations will come in today and we will hit the May goal after all. Tomorrow we start on our June goal of $5000 plus what we didn’t get in May. That will be our last full month of fundraising, and then July 1-19 will be spent trying to raise as much as we can on top of the previous three months goals. As of this morning, 126 individuals have contributed to this amazing cause. That is about 230 fewer than in past years. I know a lot of folks are not in a position to give this year, or are prioritizing other very worthy causes, but I’m hopeful this means we still have a lot of growth potential. If you have been meaning to give or if you are considering it for the first time, today is a fantastic day to do it. The issue of low-quality in-kind donations is a well-known problem in both charity work and disaster response operations. Arizona State University’s Mahyar Eftekhar, an associate professor of supply chain management at the W. P. Carey School of Business, and two associates conducted a field experiment in the Phoenix chapter of The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, to help improve in-kind donations this holiday season and beyond. https://lnkd.in/g-zx3wCj

I work with Utilities across the USA and nearly every conversation involves community impact or community outreach. The local community is the customer and the customer is the priority. Housing - A Basic Human Right: It’s easy to dismiss those experiencing homelessness as outcasts, often thinking, “Just go get a job,” without acknowledging the complex circumstances many face. In a society heavily reliant on credit, many individuals cannot secure housing simply because of poor credit—a barrier stemming from a lack of financial literacy, a skill not everyone is taught. Managing money, building credit, and navigating financial systems are relatively modern concepts and can feel foreign, especially when compared to societies where credit is not the primary pathway to housing, such as in parts of Africa or other regions with different economic systems. Moreover, mental health struggles add another layer of difficulty. Some individuals cannot maintain stable housing due to challenges with mental health, yet Western society often expects everyone to achieve perfect mental health, an excellent credit score, and impeccable money management to be deemed “acceptable.” This expectation is far removed from the reality of the human condition, where many factors, often beyond one’s control, impact stability. This is why organizations like St. Joseph Center are vital. They help people experiencing homelessness—families, individuals, and children—transition from the streets into housing. Housing is not a privilege; it’s a basic human right. This holiday season, regardless of political views, consider donating to the St. Joseph Center. They are making an undeniable difference in the lives of many, proving that we are all interconnected. What affects one human being affects us all. By supporting organizations like this, we not only provide shelter but also empower individuals to thrive, dream, and contribute to a stronger economy. Together, we can make a significant impact on our society. When people’s basic needs, like housing, are met, the entire community benefits. Together, let’s support the mission to end homelessness and create a society where everyone has the opportunity to live with dignity, a fundamental right that we all deserve. Let's show our empathy and compassion by supporting this cause.

One of the best parts about managing your own firm is that you can build initiatives that pay things forward without having to convince the higher-ups it’s a worthwhile “marketing investment”. You also don't have to convince anyone that focusing on under-represented candidates is good for the “bottom line”. Both of which are ideas I had shot down by other search firms when I decided to enter the legal recruiting industry. Being able to integrate values-based policies that extend beyond immediate financial gain is one of the biggest reasons I decided to chart my own path after learning from industry greats at larger recruitment shops. I continue to strongly encourage other legal recruitment shops to follow along! Law firms donate meaningful sums of money and time to nonprofits and I see no reason why the search firms who serve them and profit from their success can’t do the same!
