Great resource to have during this time of year. While many are excitingly stepping into celebrations with family and loved ones, others are feeling overwhelmed, anxious and unprepared to deal with the overwhelming amount of pressure, questions, and high-risk situations which unfortunately can be created by family, workspaces and the community, when we don't take into account people in recovery, mental illness, loss, and so much more. We must be thoughtful and intentional as we approach celebrations and gatherings. Aging is a privilege that can also bring unique challenges to the mental health of the elderly and their families. With age comes wisdom, but with the added stress of illness, isolation, loss of independence and increased reliance on family to provide physical and emotional support. The mental toll that caring for our older generation — often while still raising children — can take on caregivers cannot be ignored. November is National Family Caregivers Month.
