Reflecting on a meaningful experience at the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP Global) IKON conference in Toronto, a moment stands out that encapsulated the essence of our collective journey in the nonprofit sector. As I navigated through insightful sessions, sharing knowledge and making new connections, I found myself unexpectedly in front of a peace sign at the peak of the eclipse. This serendipitous encounter, amidst the exchange of ideas and experiences, served as a profound reminder of our shared purpose. The convergence of the peace symbol against the backdrop of a momentarily shadowed sun mirrored our mission: to illuminate the shadows of societal challenges with the light of collective action. This experience, symbolic of the challenges we face in the nonprofit world, reinforced my commitment to fostering a community that thrives on cooperation, understanding, and sustained efforts towards peace and equity. As we continue to navigate the complexities of our work, let this be a reminder of the power of coming together for a common cause. #NonprofitManagement #UnityInAction #ImpactfulTogether

Wrigcoll, a dedicated organization committed to uplifting urban communities in Boston, has faced significant challenges due to systemic racism and institutional prejudice. Despite its unwavering commitment to supporting local neighborhoods by providing essential resources and services, Wrigcoll has been "blacklisted" by larger entities such as the Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) and others. This exclusion is particularly painful given Wrigcoll's longstanding connection and collaboration with these organizations, including Donald’s ex-employer, Food For Free. The sting of racism has not only marginalized Wrigcoll but has also highlighted how powerful institutions can undermine smaller, grassroots efforts striving to make a difference. This unjust treatment underscores the broader issue of how larger organizations can run over the "little guys," stifling their ability to contribute positively to their communities. Wrigcoll's struggle is a poignant reminder of the pervasive barriers faced by minority-led initiatives in the nonprofit sector. #GBFBExposed #FoodForFreeRacism #MMSFIOppression #AccountabilityForGBFB #FoodForFreeInjustice #ExposeMMSFI #GBFBDiscrimination #HoldFoodForFreeAccountable #RacismAtMMSFI #EndNonprofitRacism #RacialInjustice #BlackNonprofitExclusion #FightForEquality #StopSystemicRacism #NonprofitDiscrimination #SupportBlackNonprofits #EndRacialOppression #BlackLivesMatter #JusticeForBlackLeaders #RacialEquityNow #management #BECMAExposed #AccountabilityForBECMA #BECMAProfitOverPeople #WhereIsBECMA #BECMABetrayal #BECMAFail #HoldBECMAAccountable #BECMAAndBlackStruggles #JusticeOverBECMAProfit #EndPerformativeAllyship #mentor #lifecoach #innovation #management #digitalmarketing #technology #entrepreneurship #careers #leadership

Empowering Young People, Building Safer Communities Milton Keynes has the highest knife-related crime in Thames Valley Police's jurisdiction, with 281 incidents reported in 2020-21. At Action4Youth, we believe every young person deserves a future free from crime and full of opportunity. Our Breakout Programme is designed to support young people on the cusp of exclusion or those vulnerable to gang and knife crime. Through a 3-month intensive journey, participants aged 11-16 engage in outdoor adventures, classroom sessions, and skill-building activities. We focus on leadership, self-confidence, and positive decision-making to give these young people a second chance at success. In the last year alone, we’ve impacted the lives of 25,000 young people, many from the most deprived communities, and we’re not slowing down. But we can’t do it alone. We need the support of corporate partners who care about our future generations. By partnering with us, you’re investing in the future of your community, tackling youth crime, and creating lasting change. Does your company support charities through sponsorships or CSR initiatives? Let’s connect! I’d love to discuss how your business can help us empower even more young people. Together, we can inspire today’s youth to become tomorrow’s leaders. #Action4Youth #CorporateSocialResponsibility #BreakoutProgramme #YouthEmpowerment #CommunityImpact #InvestInTheFuture

"Reflect— 2024 marks a significant milestone as ICIC celebrates 30 years of tireless commitment to driving economic inclusion and innovation. FCS - Focused Community Strategies was lucky. We were lucky because when we were invited to South Atlanta, there was already a deeply woven social fabric in place. A group of interconnected and united leaders, all legacy neighbors, invited FCS to come and collaborate with Historic South Atlanta. They already knew their neighborhood. They loved it. They wanted to speak into its future and they wanted a partner. Were they all on the same page in terms of viewpoints or politics? Not at all. But they were united in their care for one another and their community. They raised their families together. They checked in on each other. They had the kinds of deep relationships and vision for their neighborhood that a program can never create. And they used all of that hard-won and vital connectedness to open doors for FCS. Without people like The Springs, Ms. Walker, Ms. Partridge, The Haygood family, and others, we would have floundered or worse – brought harm and more inequity to Historic South Atlanta. But we were lucky. They made us lucky by being honest with us, sharing their vision, paving the way for us with others, and telling us when we were going off track. I think of this group of leaders when I think of why social connectedness is so important – both for place-based development work and flourishing in general. Every neighbor can be an agent of change. But a group of neighbors united in a common vision is catalytic. Wherever you are in your neighborhood, look for these groups of neighbors with vision. They hold more wisdom and know-how than you can imagine. #legacyneighbors #placemaking #equity #communitydevelopment #communityleader #nonprofit #nonprofits #neighbors #neighborhoods #neighborhoodengagement

AFN Bank On Arkansas+ Director Kara Wilkins reflects on Anna Gifty Opoku-Agyeman's powerful words that challenged attendees to reflect on where and how data will be sourced in the years to come while encouraging grantmakers to think beyond only providing financial resources to institutions and instead become transformational leaders for systemic change. As AFN celebrates its 20th Anniversary, and looks forward to the next 20 years, it embraces the words of Opoku-Agyeman and invites funders to join them in intentionally centering economic equity and confronting racial bias in asset building, including reframing and restructuring the approach to research and data. Rye Young has been fundraising and organizing the rich towards justice for quite some time now. The former Executive Director of Third Wave Fund is now a donor advisor, and leads a cohort of young wealthy people through a program called Grounded Giving (https://lnkd.in/gRCVmU96) with Mijo Lee I had such a good time interviewing Rye this summer. Here's a clip from our conversation: “I think about what donor organizing is. And to me, it's about people with wealth taking on responsibility to organize resources towards movements and to take responsibility for how well nourished and funded movements are. And that responsibility thing, to me, it's a healing thing around privilege. How do you go from hating your power that was given to you without being earned, to earning some self respect around how you actually show up to movements around the things you do have access to. So that's the thing I care most about. Seeing how movement leaders have had to do donor organizing on their own without like a lot of backup and support, and hold so much emotional labor and do so much of that transformative organizing work without really any acknowledgement or credit. It's about transferring some of that responsibility to people with wealth and training them to be organizers and not just be organized is something that I'm really passionate about. I want organizing leaders to do their organizing work and not have to, on the DL, be coaching and supporting rich people, which can take a lot of time and energy.” #organizetherich #donororganizing #movementleaders #emotionallabor #healing #privilege #movethatmoney
