Recommendations on LinkedIn are like Yelp reviews--another way a hiring manager or clients can get insights into what it's like to work with you. But it's not easy to see if someone requested one from you, or if they sent one to you. Here's where to look:

This chart shows the trend of month active users in the Exit Five community over the last 12 months. What changed? We made the decision to invest more resources in the community (other than my hot B2B marketing takes that you get on LinkedIn). Most importantly hiring a team, and having someone focus full-time on community engagement. We've also noticed a steady increase in what we call ICP members, without any real tricks or gimmicks. Just focusing on quality conversations, listening to our community, calling out valuable comments and posts from members to reinforce good behavior and things we want more of, and build a better understanding of what people want more of, and fostering more connections inside of the community. We have a playbook now, and it goes far beyond just doing AMAs inside of the community or asking people what they are working on this week. You can't just give community engagement to the intern and expect good things to happen. 2024 marked a big shift with Exit Five as we built a team. We now treat each one of our channels like a product, because it is. We are not a software business. We are a content business. Content is our product. We treat our newsletter like a product. Our list has grown. Engagement has gone up. Same thing with our community. It takes time, effort, deep experience in this niche, and a whole lot of patience. Shoutout to the Exit Five team for the continued effort and learning here. We're really doing it!

Why Yelp isn't working anymore Some old and some new reasons that just won't go away. ➡️ Taste is subjective and Yelp is comprised of a bunch of strangers whose taste may or may not be aligned with your own. ➡️ Paid and Fake Reviews. We all know this is happening and it is clearly a problem for businesses and customers alike. ➡️ Algorithmic Bias. Many businesses have fallen victim to Yelp's algo which surfaces negative reviews that magically get pushed down once their advertising budget is increased. Hmmmm. 🤔 So what's the answer? It's pretty simple...get recommendations from people you know and trust. And that's why VOUCH Vault was developed. Easily share, discover and keep track of recommendations from your personal network. Oh, and there's no negativity either...these are recommendations, not reviews. Like my mom used to say, "if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all." 🙂

People do business with People: Whether you're just starting out or have been in the game for over a decade, this principle holds true. By sharing personal stories, photos, and videos of your work, you create a connection that can significantly boost client engagement. Now, you might be thinking, "I post about my business all the time, but it doesn't help." If that's the case, it’s likely that your approach needs tweaking. Posting content isn’t enough if it's not strategic and engaging. Here are some crucial questions to ask yourself: Community Engagement: Are you active in local Facebook groups where your ideal clients hang out? Showcasing Your Work: Are you documenting your before and after projects and sharing these transformations with your audience? Adding Value: Do your posts help solve problems or add value for your target audience? Daily Interaction: Are you connecting with 50-100 new people daily on Facebook? Local Presence: Do you participate in local groups to discuss and showcase your business? Consistent Posting: Are you sharing stories, photos, and updates at least three times a week? If you answered NO to any of these questions, then you need to fix that. And if your answer is YES to all, let's chat and get on a free consultation call.

This is your sign to build a community, not a following. Everyone longs for more followers, more connections more subscribers but you don't know how much VALUE you can get out of a small audience when your deliverables are FOCUSED. LOOK: * IKEA started by selling pens * Nokia started as a paper mill * Amazon started by selling books * Paypal started in an apartment Not ONLY was the idea addressing a specific small problem, but these businesses were started with the knowledge that they could change the world. All of us as creators can try to go viral, try to copy others But what meaning is there in any of that? SO Create meaningful, real content and INSTEAD of a following YOU WILL BUILD COMMUNITY. Going further than you ever imagined.

Building Community: Creating Deeper Connections with Your Audience 🌐❤️ Ever wondered what transforms followers into a loyal community? It’s about engaging with them on a level that goes beyond transactions. When you connect with people’s values, you’re not just a brand; you’re a part of their lives. Here’s how to build that kind of community: 1️⃣ Listen First – Your audience wants to be heard. Ask questions, invite feedback, and learn what truly matters to them 🎙️. 2️⃣ Create Meaningful Content – Share content that resonates with their goals and challenges, not just your brand message 📈🌱. 3️⃣ Engage Consistently – Show up in their feeds, respond to their comments, and let them know they matter 🗣️. 4️⃣ Celebrate Their Wins – Recognize your community’s milestones and accomplishments, and they’ll feel like they’re growing with you 🎉❤️. 5️⃣ Be Authentic – People connect with realness. Share your journey, the highs and lows, and build trust over time 🤝💬. A strong community isn’t built overnight; it’s nurtured through trust, engagement, and value. Remember, people don’t just buy products—they buy connection and a sense of belonging. 👉 Follow Madhav Vilpara for more tips on creating an engaged, thriving community that goes beyond business!
