This is your sign to build a community, not a following. Everyone longs for more followers, more connections more subscribers but you don't know how much VALUE you can get out of a small audience when your deliverables are FOCUSED. LOOK: * IKEA started by selling pens * Nokia started as a paper mill * Amazon started by selling books * Paypal started in an apartment Not ONLY was the idea addressing a specific small problem, but these businesses were started with the knowledge that they could change the world. All of us as creators can try to go viral, try to copy others But what meaning is there in any of that? SO Create meaningful, real content and INSTEAD of a following YOU WILL BUILD COMMUNITY. Going further than you ever imagined.

But if you want to grow... use the algorithms to your advantage! How can you do that? By doing one (or all) of these! - Show your face in your feed, stories, reels and everywhere! - Show up every single day. You don't have to post every day but you can show up in your stories every day. The more you show up the more opportunity you're seen and connecting with people. - Use all avenues within the apps. Stories, reels, lives and DMs. - Keep social media social and build an actual community. - Lead with value. If this sounds overwhelming, and like a lot to take on, remember to take baby steps and that the best thing you can do is just get started.

A little tip for anyone who's on social platforms to network and connect with others, be it for business or personal. Here it is: read the comments, respond like a human being (and not chatGPT hopefully) and *actually* interact with your audience! Here's another tip, change up the reaction and response. Celebrate. Support. Finds it insightful. Finds it funny. Google how to do it if you don't already know. You are already here. Make it worthwhile, better yet, value add to others. You are making connections, sending requests and initiating conversations. Might as well put in some more efforts to make the most out of it :) Your socials are your shopfronts, your "lease" you didn't have to pay for - make it your "asset" and not just a mere profile with words around it. Trust me, using socials can be fun, fulfilling and not cringey, boring or transactional! Now practice it, drop me a react 😉 Happy Good Friday 💛

I deleted Instagram for 2 years. Why? Like tons of apps... it can be a big time sink. I could feel the algorithims sucking me in and opening it on autopilot to kill time and escape boredom (𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩, 𝘣𝘵𝘸, 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘣𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶) -- 📈the 𝗚𝗢𝗢𝗗: • More productivity and focus • Improved patience and mindfulness • Deeper, more meaningful connections 📉the 𝗕𝗔𝗗: • Replaced doomscrolling with other distractions (at first) • Missed some group chats and convos • Harder to stay in touch with people Was it worth it? Yes. -- But I eventually came crawling back and reluctantly redownloaded it.. running a business, 𝘦𝘴𝘱 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘦 + traveling a lot = needing it for both personal and business DMs 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗜 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘄: ↳ Just for DMs (with controls to limit usage) -- Sharing this because I see more and more people talking about disconnecting. Almost everyone I know is glued to their phones, (whether they realise it or not), and it’s only becoming more and more common. Think you’re not? Check your screen time and prove me wrong 😉

Because it won't get you the results you're really looking for, but I know how tempting it can be. And so do they. 🤔 It’s especially tempting when you’re just starting out, you're building your online presence, and in the early stages of reaching your target audience. But here’s the headline - it doesn’t work. It may look like a quick fix, but it's literally a waste of money and not a real solution. 💸 Facebook also know there are better ways, but of course, they’re a business, and the other ways aren’t the same as those constant, instant little influxes of cash that they get from it, every day, and every month, and every year. (Current figures - around 2.9 BILLION active users). 🤑 So next time you’re tempted, maybe try and even imagine the amount of money they're making. I know it’d give me pause for thought. Random question, what’s the biggest amount of money you can imagine? I just tried and managed a skyscraper-high pile of money. A mountain, l couldn’t quite picture... 😄

I’ve been thinking a lot about the challenges of building meaningful communities on social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. I’ve come to the conclusion that these platforms are more focused on collecting behavioral data to sell ads than on fostering genuine connections. It’s like building on rented land…you’re pouring time and resources into something you can’t fully control. Whether it’s the lack of moderation tools, limited access to data, or the unpredictability of algorithms, there’s no guarantee your community’s content will even reach its members. That’s why I’m so passionate about platforms like Networked. More and more people are making the switch because they value better experiences, greater visibility, and control over their data. Today, we’ve grown to a family of 3,000+ communities, and we’re just getting started. We’re on a mission to revolutionize how communities are built and managed. Don’t get left behind. Join us on Networked and start building a community that’s secure, engaging, and truly yours.

Three things I realized after deleting my Facebook account yesterday... 1) After spending nearly 20 years on that platform posting regularly, I learned that I can only do so much when playing chess against the algo that doesn't value counter-cultural opinions - ultimately the bot won. 2) I amassed over 2,000 'friends' but had less than 5% see or engage with my posts and was constantly seeing only the same small percentage of posts of others. It became an echo chamber which was no longer adding value to my life. 3) After marketing my first business to six-figures through Facebook, I learned that the platform has always made money off of my joy and my labor. The sour feeling of that fact (and entrepreneurial burn-out) led to me even faster towards the exit. In summary, my experience, connection and overall benefit from being on the app was in a steady decline for over a year and moving through the account deletion process has energetically shifted my intention with social media. I want to engage with apps that serve me beyond distraction and dopamine. While I don't think LinkedIn is one of them, I am curious if you have a recommendation.

Social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn aren’t the right environments for building meaningful communities. These platforms focus on collecting behavioral data to sell ads, not on creating genuine connections. Think of social media platforms as rented land. You’re investing time and resources into building something you can’t fully control. Whether it’s the lack of moderation tools, limited access to data, or the unpredictability of algorithms. Your community’s content and conversations might not even reach your members. This is exactly why more and more people are migrating to platforms like Networked. They value better experiences, visibility, and control over their data. Today we’ve grown to a family of 3,000+ communities and we plan on revolutionizing the entire industry. Don’t get left behind. Join Networked today and build a community that’s secure, engaging, and truly yours.
