Register today: https://buff.ly/3yfbqda Architecture Uncensored is an annual series organized by the AIA|DC Emerging Architects Committee that discusses challenging topics within our profession. This event encourages interactive and lively conversations between emerging professionals and firm leaders as we dive into questions we often find challenging to discuss in our offices. Part 1 of our series will focus on how emerging professionals can find their value in the early stages of their careers and the current state of our market. In this challenging economic climate, emerging professionals are looking to understand how they can negotiate for themselves, find supportive mentors, and be intentional with their work-life balance to manage burnout. Panelists representing a range of leadership, experience, firm size, project type, and daily practice will discuss how emerging professionals can advocate for and understand their value in a difficult market.

Our CEO Sarah Kay recently spoke with #ArchitectureLab's Anton Giuroiu to discuss all things architecture and design and shares her design and leadership style. When asked about how she approaches working with clients to understand their needs and visions, Sarah responded "My vision for our business is to be relevant and impactful in finding solutions for the world’s mega-issues. I believe a ‘Total Place Design’ approach will have the most impact on the world ahead and believe this vision resonates well with all stakeholders – uniting them together for a common purpose." "To create transformative places, we need integrated thinking beyond architecture that solves problems upstream and enables connected outcomes across the design process." A Sweet 🌹 Smelling Story of Success In 2019, business was booming for the award-winning Chicago-based landscape architecture firm Hoerr Schaudt. But founder and #Vistage member Doug Hoerr recognized the need for a succession plan and new partnership to cultivate the firm’s leaders for future growth. Hoerr appointed four team members to become partners, including Carroll Conway, who was promoted to president and has since led the company through a massive influx of pandemic-fueled growth. She credits collaboration with her fellow partners, Vistage peers and Chairs with supporting her success. “Collaboration and execution are how we create landscapes and a business that stands the test of time,” she says. Under Conway’s leadership, Hoerr Schaudt has: 🌲 Hired over 30 new employees 🌺 Selected the executive team 🌳 Implemented a management system and operating platform 🌼 Enrolled its next tier of managers in Vistage Leadership Development Programs Since making those changes, revenue has bloomed from $9 million to more than $17 million in two years and is expected to exceed $20 million in 2024. Plans are in place to expand beyond the firm’s current locations and continue adding to its lineup of professional services through acquisitions and organic growth. “That was something Doug kept speaking to us about — you don’t just get a piece of the pie when you’re an owner, you have to make the pie bigger,” says Conway. “We’ve been very fortunate to be growing the business.” Read more Vistage member stories in the Summer 2024 edition of Vistage Perspectives magazine - https://lnkd.in/gw33PAkR. How are you ✒writing your success story? What's the 📰 headline? Who is helping you make it possible? #ChicagoCEO #CEOs #VistageMVP

I mean...could there be a more perfect union??!! I am SO excited to be taking part in Tubi Cabana at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity! More on the session I'll be participating in below. Check out the Tubi post to RSVP! Huge thanks to Myles Worthington and WORTHI for the invitation (and to Greg Hahn for saying he's excited about it 😁) 1PM TUESDAY 6/18 Multicultural Can’t Come to the Phone Right Now, She’s Dead What even is multicultural? Literally nobody identifies as multicultural, or diverse, or any of the other blanket terms in play. And then you have words like “minority” and “marginalized”, which inaccurately categorize these audiences as inferior or small. If you are an expert in authentically connecting and communicating with underestimated audiences, you are an expert at resonating with the general market — because Black, Latine, AAPI and LGBTQ+ culture is mainstream culture! Marketers should think about these audiences as a part of their day-to-day strategy, and not because of principles related to DEI, but because of principles related to profit. Weed out the apathetic language, lean into specificity, and be intentional about authentically and consistently connecting with these underestimated audiences. Your brand depends on it.
Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is right around the corner, and we invite you to step into the Tubi Cabana: our hub of free expressions, communities, and original thinkers - sans the Boring Stuff. With a star-studded lineup of today's cultural architects, business leaders, and creative visionaries, join us for a series of spirited discussions that push the boundaries of creativity and commerce. See the full session list and reserve your spot for weeklong access here: https://bit.ly/4bowhcx

📢 Thrilled to have been part of an insightful panel discussion that reaffirms human-centered design's importance in change management! I thank my fellow panelists for an in-depth and riveting discussion. Your expertise and perspectives truly made the conversation enriching and thought-provoking. One key takeaway: Placing humans at the heart of change processes is not about following a change model; it is more about making change a cultural artifact that lives in your organization's DNA. "Change is not about the new beginning. It's about the journey and the people you take along with you." - Unknown. Let's continue to champion the human side of change! 🌟 🎙️Samuel Sanders, Jr, City Manager, City of Charlottesville 🎙️Mariane Asad Doyle, Ph.D., SHRM-SCP Asad Doyle, Executive Director, Center for Nonprofit Excellence 🎙️Corey Clayborne, FAIA, MBA, CAE, Sr. VP, Knowledge & Practice, The American Institute of Architects (AIA) #HUMANEVENT #spillteem #authenticleadership #authenticconversations #panel #humancentereddesign #humancentered #spillonpurpose #innovation #behaviordesign #leadership #leadershipdevelopment #humanleadership #insights #inspiration #professionaldevelopment #leadershipevent #leadershipsummit #leadershipconference #Conference #businessevent #charlottesvilleva #forum #leadershipConference #humanresources #change #changemanagement #transformation #organizationalchange

What does it take to lead a top-level professional services organisation? What are the challenges of international expansion? What makes it work into the future? These were some of the questions put to Ross Donaldson, the former MD and Global Executive Chairman of Woods Bagot architects. Ross led a conversation for Band of Leaders Australia (BOLA) Prime members and guests entitled What Makes It Work?, at the group’s monthly meeting on Friday 19 July at Casa Nostra in Osborne Park. (Ross 2nd right with David Blythe-Wood, Arnold Stroobach, George Koutroulos.) BOLA is a peer membership group for business owners and chief executives. We seek to take our members beyond achievement to success—the essence of leadership. Inviting Guest Conversations is a key activity in our group meeting. From 2006 Ross was CEO and Chairman of Woods Bagot, Australia’s largest and only global architectural practice. Woods Bagot grew under Ross’s leadership, from a mid-size Australian practice to be the world’s 6th largest in 2015 and named equal 7th as the ‘most admired firm’, judged amongst its peers in a World Architecture survey in 2016. In an in-depth conversation Ross said that to lead a top level professional services organisation it had taken the recruitment of young, enthusiastic and fearless practitioners along with the introduction of knowledge-driven design. This concept was based on how any given space was to be used and was articulated, documented and published–becoming central to their practice, marketing and recruitment efforts. Knowing how buildings perform was their central concept, and this became very powerful for designers and clients alike. In the 9 years following 2006 Woods Bagot’s turnover increased 600% and their staffing from 300 to 800. A crucial part of this growth was the improvement in productivity by 240%.
