  • Why hold trainings dedicated to women? In the U.S., only 7.4 percent of currently employed arborists are women, according to an arborist demographics research summary report on career expert website Zippia.com. Davey was proud to hold a Western Women’s+ Careers workshop in Colorado, a Women’s+ event at the Davey Institute in Kent, Ohio, and an Underrepresented Genders workshop in Chicago this year. These events allowed attendees to connect with peers, participate in team-building exercises and panels, and learn about different areas of fieldwork.

  • As Matthew Morrison, senior consulting forester, Utility Vegetation Management services (UVM), Davey Resource Group (DRG), and Chase Schneider, technician, UVM, DRG, were driving to a work location, they saw smoke rising near a railroad in Whittier, California. When they pulled over to inspect the smoke’s origin, they found a small brush fire near a cactus starting to spread toward the nearby railroad ties and tracks. After calling for help, the two began to tame the fire by using their five-gallon water pack until emergency personnel arrived. “When we saw what was happening, we knew we had to do something,” Morrison said. “We ended up spraying the entire water pack we keep in our trucks and throwing dirt on the fire until there were no visible flames left. Thank you for living Davey's safety value! #LivingOurValues #DaveyDifference #theDaveyway

  • A Davey Resource Group (DRG) arborist surveyed his one-millionth tree. Yes, you read that correctly. Reid Gibson has been inventorying trees, recording their conditions and recommending treatments for over a decade. He surveyed his one-millionth tree while working on an inventory project for the city of Chesterfield, Missouri. Reid's milestone number is composed of trees from across the country. "It's probably easier to name the states that I haven't worked in than to name all the places I have," Reid said. "I like that I've gotten to see a lot of the country along the way." Congratulations Reid! 👏🌳🌴🌲

  • In 2018, The Muny, America's oldest and largest outdoor musical theater, first partnered with the Davey Resource Group (DRG) to address the loss of its canopy, a key feature for productions. The project involved restoring the historic tree backdrop, monitoring trees, and consulting on tree and plant health care. Since then, Davey’s certified arborists have pruned trees, removed large trees when necessary, and managed plant health care across the venue. The team responds quickly to tree-related issues to maintain safety and the park's aesthetic appeal. The partnership continues to evolve and support The Muny’s commitment to a safe and beautiful environment for its guests.
