'Tis the season . . . to be giving! Once again this year, the Lewis Giving Tree committee made a heartfelt donation to the Dream Factory Inc. of Rochester, NY, helping three children bring their dreams to life as they bravely face critical and chronic illnesses. CEO Leslie Compton Kass and CHRO Dixie Bingham, SPHR joined Lewis employees at our corporate office to warmly welcome the families and surprise the kids with two magical trips to Disney World and a brand-new computer gaming system. As Gayle Meyer, a member of the Lewis Giving Tree committee, proudly shared, this marks the 12th year in a row that the company has supported the Dream Factory. "Donating to an organization is one thing, but truly connecting with the people we help is something special. The smiles on the faces of the Lewis team were just as radiant as the kids', and there were even some tears of joy." With chapters in 16 states across the country, the Dream Factory is the largest children’s wish-granting organization that does not limit its mission to children who have life-threatening illness. As Thanksgiving week approaches, we want to share a heartwarming story of gratitude received by two of our dedicated Lewis team members for their volunteer efforts earlier this year. You might recall our post from April, where some of GF Roy Anderson's crew lent a hand in clearing a path at the Wounded Warrior Outdoor Adventures at Camp Serenity in Upstate NY, paving the way for their annual mud run. In appreciation of their hard work, the organization honored father and son duo, William and Brandon Stamper, with commemorative plaques and a stunning eagle keepsake. We commend William and Brandon for this well-deserved recognition and extend our heartfelt thanks to the military service members who visit Camp Serenity, along with all veterans who have crawled through the mud and served in countless ways to protect our freedom. Whether it's performing regular vegetation management tasks, working long hours away from home during storm restoration, or volunteering in various capacities, the Lewis family embodies the spirit of "service" in our mission statement, and we are grateful to each one of them for their unwavering commitment to this goal. #JobDoneRight #ServiceToOthers #Thanksgiving #Utilities #PowerON

We're ending our Leadership in Action recap with the last two of our principles: Do What You Say You're Going to Do and Be the Leader, Employee and Supplier You Wish You Had. These principles are more than just platitudes here at Lewis. They're foundational to the way we go about pursuing the success of our customers and community partners. In his Leadership in Action Spotlight, Technical Trainer Bret Kent talks about how reliability and clear, consistent communications are the building blocks of a great team dynamic. And in her spotlight, Director of Contract Management Support Jenny Brewster provides insight on how our last principle is vital to building strong relationships within and across teams. Read both articles on our website today: Lewis Leadership in Action Spotlight: Technical Training Manager Bret Kent: https://hubs.ly/Q02YqtKr0 Lewis Leadership in Action Spotlight: Director of Contract Management Support Jenny Brewster: https://hubs.ly/Q02YqtrL0 #LeadershipinAction #ThoughtLeadership #ICYMI

We're on to the next two Leadership in Action principles in our recap: "No One Cares How Much You Know Until They Know How Much You Care" and "Never Confuse Activity with Results". The first of these two principles is actually a quote from President Theodore Roosevelt. We got the chance to speak with Lewis Board Member Dawn DePerrior about how she incorporates this principle into a data-driven world. Read her insightful article here: https://hubs.ly/Q02YpLBC0 Is your team delivering results or are they just busy? That's a question Division Manager Daniel Sandoval asks himself often to keep in line with the second of the two principles above. Learn how Daniel has been able to differentiate between being busy and being productive on our website: https://hubs.ly/Q02YpSYV0 #LeadershipinAction #ICYMI #ThoughtLeadership

Next up in our Leadership in Action recap, we're talking about our next two Leadership in Action principles: What You Permit, You Promote and Trust but Verify. Looking the other way. Not speaking up. Taking shortcuts. These inactions may seem innocent, but they can be interpreted as implied approval and have lasting effects on the way teams interact and complete their work. Just ask Alaina Ziegler, Director of Safety and Human Performance. She's seen firsthand how empowering employees to speak up instead of letting things slide can make all the difference when it comes to safety. Read the full story here: https://hubs.ly/Q02YpSJd0 As a 100% employee-owned company, our team members are accountable to each other and the entire organization. Though some may question why our leaders take the time to verify work if they say they trust their team, Division Manager Eric Newman knows that with stakes as high as they are in the utility vegetation management industry, trusting AND verifying are both of equal importance. Read more about this vital principle on our website today: https://hubs.ly/Q02YpRVV0 #LeadershipinAction #ThoughtLeadership #ICYMI

If you've been following along with us this year, you know that we've been focusing on how our employees put Leadership in Action every day. We've enjoyed sharing stories from our employees that exemplify the Leadership in Action principles we've identified. If you missed a few, don't worry—we're taking a week to recap them all! Today, we're starting with our first Leadership in Action principle: Must Be Present to Win. Who better to demonstrate this principle than our very own CEO Leslie Kass? In this must-read article, Leslie details how important it is to spend time with employees in their everyday work environments to learn about their perspectives, needs, and challenges. Staying in touch with the front lines is vital for decision-making and employee morale, Leslie says.
