This Veterans Day, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have served. We’re honored to highlight Gail Schnell, a U.S. Army Combat Veteran who served in Afghanistan and is currently pursuing her Executive MBA at The University of Maryland. As part of our 10-year tradition, we’re proud to support Gail with a year of free housing. This opportunity allows Gail to focus on her studies and immerse herself in campus life, fostering connections with her new community and supporting her passion for service. Gail is also the founder and president of the Warrior Canine Connection Club at UMD, empowering fellow veterans by training service dogs that bring therapeutic support to others who have served. Throughout October, our Southern Management team members proudly wore pink and personalized signs, honoring those impacted by breast cancer. Together, we honor their strength, courage, and resilience, and we reaffirm our commitment to raise awareness, support research, and inspire hope. At Southern Management, we believe that empowering today’s youth with essential skills is crucial for building a prosperous tomorrow. We're proud to continue our partnership with Junior Achievement of Greater Washington, an organization that is transforming education in our region. Our team has been actively involved in hands-on experiences at JA Finance Park, guiding middle-school students through personal budgeting simulations. These sessions provide invaluable lessons on goal setting, bill paying, and managing finances, equipping young minds with the skills they need for a prosperous future. Last week, our Southern Management family gathered for an unforgettable day of learning, engagement, and growth at #SMCShowtime, hosted at The Hotel at Arundel Preserve! Over 175 team members from leasing, resident services, and service teams, alongside our amazing leadership, came together to level up our skills and connections. A huge thank you to our incredible keynote speaker, Stephanie Anderson from Grace Hill, for sharing powerful insights on turning customer feedback into world-class service. The lessons on enhancing resident satisfaction and the impact of even small gestures are already making waves in our communities. This year’s Mike McKinley Almost Home Golf Tournament was an unforgettable success, bringing together 140 golfers and raising an incredible $168,080.  It was more than just a day of golf—it was a tribute to the memory of Mike McKinley, who founded this tournament in 1996. Though Mike passed away in 2021, his legacy continues to shine through the lives of the children who benefit from the Almost Home program. This program, which partners with local elementary and middle schools, offers after-school homework and tutoring support, creating lasting impacts on young students. None of this would be possible without the tremendous generosity of our sponsors, vendors, and participants, whose unwavering support allows us to carry forward Mike’s vision. We are deeply grateful for their contributions and for helping us honor Mike’s memory in such a meaningful way.
