  • 🎉 On Friday, October 18, 2024, we had the distinct pleasure of welcoming our esteemed SMLP alumni back to campus for the University of Maryland Homecoming '24! 🌟 Over 55 alumni joined us for an unforgettable third annual homecoming event, where they joined students to learn, connect, and celebrate.  The evening was further enhanced by a networking dinner and an engaging photo booth, creating lasting memories for all attendees. It was truly a remarkable celebration of our community! 🥳 The event featured an outstanding panel of our very own SMLP alumni and their entrepreneurial journeys. It was hosted by Nathan McMullen, Class of 2023 and our students learned so much. Our esteemed panelists included Ayesha Hudson (Class of 2012), Founder and CEO of A-Peace LLC; Aranje Sripanjalingam (Class of 2019), Founder and CEO of Ingenio Marketing; Delight D. (Class of 2020), Founder and CEO of akeBULANPrints; and Caroline Ta (Class of 2021), Founder and CEO of Sweets by Caroline. From real estate, macrons, digital marketing, and fashion, our SMLP alumni cover it all! 🚀 We also had engaging Mini TED Talks from Bob Okoro-Ajuzie ‘20, who discussed the importance of ethical decision-making in business; Diana Sarnor ‘19, who shared her journey in entrepreneurship and how to give powerful pitches for your startups; Jasmine Brunson ‘20, who focused on the intersection of data science and entrepreneurship; and Allen Myers II ‘19, who provided valuable interview tips to help students prepare for their future careers. 🐢 Together, we explored the entrepreneurial mindset, inspiring students to embark on their own startup journeys. We can’t wait to see where their entrepreneurial adventures take them next and are so grateful for our vibrant SMLP alumni community! 🌍✨ A huge thank you to everyone who participated and made this event such a success. Your energy and insights truly enrich our SMLP community! #SMLP #AlumniEvent #Entrepreneurship #Networking #Homecoming

  • 🚀 Cloudforce Field Trip Recap! 🚀 We had an incredible time visiting Cloudforce last Friday, where our students experienced firsthand the innovative strides the company has made over the past year. The day kicked off with a warm welcome from Jesse Kellner, VP of Delivery, who introduced us to Cloudforce's core values, emphasizing growth and teamwork. Students were engaged during the "Cloudforce Basics" session, where they learned what sets Cloudforce apart from its competitors and the significance of its community commitment. The highlight of the visit was an insightful conversation with Husein Sharaf, CEO of Cloudforce, where he discussed cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset. We were especially proud to see two of our very own SMLP alumni, James L. Poindexter Jr. '23 and Atemnkeng Njinju '24, showcasing their talents at Cloudforce. Atemnkeng even led a live demo of the new product, nebulaONE, demonstrating its features and the marketing strategies behind it. A heartfelt thank you to Husein Sharaf, Arija Rahman, and Aniya Young for hosting us and making this enriching experience possible. We look forward to seeing how our students will apply their newfound knowledge in their future endeavors! #Cloudforce #FieldTrip #SMLP #UMD2024 #UniversityofMaryland #AlumniSuccess #Innovation #Networking

This past weekend I was given the opportunity to volunteer at the Latinos46 2024 retreat where I was surrounded by an inspiring group of accomplished latinx leader’s working in government and policy. It was a full day of facilitied discussion where I got to hear from appointees working directly under the Biden administration. • This past Friday, we had the incredible opportunity to hear from Jenny Sak, the Program Manager for Career Education and Exposure at UMD University Career Center & The President's Promise! 🎉 UMD offers a wealth of resources designed to empower students to realize their full career potential. During the workshop, students discovered how to leverage transferable skills to become standout candidates for job positions. UMD's partnerships with HireSmith and HandShake, along with specialized programs through various colleges and departments, provide invaluable support. 🤝 Students explored the importance of soft skills like email etiquette, effective communication, and leadership. They learned how to enhance their professional online presence, network more effectively, and negotiate salaries confidently. 💼 Through an interactive activity, they crafted their professional pitches and received constructive feedback—what a great way to build confidence! One key takeaway? “Scary things don't have to be frightening!” 🌟 The workshop also highlighted that the purpose of an interview is not only to showcase skills but to ensure the professional experience and job environment align with personal goals. Students gained insights into different interview types, including behavioral, situational, case, and technical interviews, helping them approach each with confidence. We were also thrilled to have the wonderful Cheryl Hillman join us, reinforcing how our students can conquer interviews with assurance and poise. 🙌 Overall, it was a transformative experience that will undoubtedly equip students for success in their career journeys! 🚀
