What sets The Adelson School's Entrepreneurship Program and DECA Chapter apart? We start early! I suspect we’re one of the few schools in the state (and maybe even the country) where 7th and 8th graders are taught by a high school DECA advisor. Our middle schoolers get hands-on experience with DECA Role Plays, sharpening crucial soft skills like public speaking, problem-solving, and creative thinking. These are essential skills that will help them in the future, no matter what career path they choose! 📸 Here’s a snapshot of our middle school students participating in one of my favorite activities from NGPF.org : 'Move: Your Tax Dollars in Action.' Not only did they learn how Federal Income Tax dollars are allocated, but this activity directly supports preparation for DECA’s Personal Financial Literacy event. By introducing financial literacy early, we’re helping students build a strong foundation for lifelong success.

Defining a problem, ideating a solution, refining the solution, and building a go-to-market strategy, only then to pitch it to strangers … because thats what 150 students 14-15 y/o managed to brilliant success in our most recent volunteering day A couple of my favourites include: Reusable gum (cleaning teeth and the streets) Unbranded and discrete biodegradable period products A community based app around climate change and sustainability. Policy–federal and state–is an essential catalyst for the kind of change needed to create more equitable opportunities for all learners. Family values Usually, we assume the two diverse families, but now we can see a third and new emerging class that fills the gap between the rich and the poor. A middle-class family is characterized by its journey of building a life from the ground up, fueled by hard work and determination. When you come from a middle-class background, people often assume you’re honest and good-hearted. We take immense pride in identifying ourselves as part of this group, recognizing the struggles of our community, and honoring the lives our parents led. From a middle-class upbringing, three key expectations arise: First, the significance of money cannot be understated. This lesson embeds itself deeply within us, often without explicit teaching. It becomes an integral part of our lives, influencing generations to come. Second, there is a profound sense of duty. Once you commit to a task, you must see it through to completion. Retreating from your obligations is simply not an option. Finally, while human nature often leaves us unsatisfied, wise financial management and the development of patience have value. Recognizing how far you’ve come provides a foundation for even greater achievements. ~ Tanya Dabral

Kudos to Strada Education Foundation on the release of their Public Policy Agenda. Their consistent recognition of the need for data solutions to enhance transparency in education-to-employment outcomes is crucial. The Credential Transparency Description Language (CTDL) is the leading open standard for transparently showcasing credentials, skills, and outcomes data. Together, we can work to create a transparent and open ecosystem that empowers all learners.

Politics may seem like a rather abstract subject matter when you are of pre-voting age. What can serve to make the unfamiliar a little less daunting are the voices of our peers, who motivate us to be curious and open-minded. MASt students and student leaders had the opportunity to experience just this when they attended a ‘Participate’ workshop with PRIORY ACADEMY, DUNSTABLE alumni, Josh. Discussing his personal journey in the workshop, from his burgeoning interest in politics (which was first sparked whilst he was studying at Priory) driven by his grandparent who shared his passion, to his current studies and work experience in the world of politics, Josh encouraged the students to use their personal values to make their own choices as they move along their journeys as future voters (and leaders!), themselves. Harnessing the power of alumni/peer insights can be a much undervalued experience. Josh’s workshop motivated the students to explore the unknown by encouraging them to lean into their curiosity. To approach powerful, and sometimes divisive, subject matter with openness and a tolerance for everyone’s views. And, importantly, to participate when they find something that truly resonates with them as individuals. A brilliant experience for all. Thank you, Josh!
