Yesterday, we hosted a networking luncheon in partnership with Jim and Krista Anderson-Sorenson, founders of Sorenson Impact, to connect different players in our ecosystem, including a group of local founders, tech investors, and other ecosystem leaders. The luncheon sparked insightful discussions around the strategic use of capital to drive positive social change. It also enabled the formation of powerful partnerships among local founders, tech investors, and ecosystem leaders. Many thanks to everyone who graced us with their presence and the Sorenson family for partnering with us for this crucial gathering.

  • Minority Depository Institutions (MDIs) are cornerstones in Low-to-Moderate Income communities across the U.S., providing key financial services to those who are largely overlooked by traditional financial institutions. Despite this clear focus on impact for these communities, the MDI sector has been largely overlooked by impact investors. In this #SOCAP24 conversation, panelists discuss the opportunities presented by MDIs and how impact investors can look to partner with them to scale racial equity and climate financing in America's marginalized communities. https://lnkd.in/gvcpMhfz 💡 Check out the recording for insights from: • John Balbach | MacArthur FoundationEdgar Romney | Amalgamated BankChristopher White | National Bankers Association Foundation • Katie Macc | Sorenson Impact Institute PS: Sign up here to access SOCAP Global's full SOCAP24 session playlist with 100+ powerful conversations from this year's event! https://lnkd.in/gbAik4uJ

I am fully on board with the article from the Sorenson Impact Institute detailing the authentic combination of purpose and profession behind impact investing. It's really worth calling out from the piece that as assets under management (AUM) of sustainable and impact investing are growing faster than in any other sector, investment organizations are responding to this accelerating client demand. #ImpactInvesting

For the first time, The Idea Center at Miami Dade College has teamed up with the Sorenson Impact Institute to launch a new wave of impact investors. Three talented MDC students were chosen to join an exclusive cohort hosted at the University of Utah, where they’ll dive into hands-on impact investing alongside peers from schools like Bowie State University. Over the next eight months, these 15 students will be at the front lines of venture capital—sourcing deals, investing real funds, and driving social enterprises that make a difference. As a Hispanic-Serving Institution, MDC is excited to unlock career paths in impact investing, expanding access to a field that’s historically hard to break into. We’re eager to see the game-changing journeys these students will lead!
