Ice Cream is getting a Glow Up in 2025. And it will never be the same. Ice cream on a Monday morning? Yep. We’re doing this. It’s Monday after a long weekend. Let’s just ease into this, k? Well, in just about every other category… …disruption has been the name of the game. High protein, ethnic fusion, regenerative farming. All the things in all the categories. But ice cream has managed to slip through the cracks. (Minus a couple of first movers, which I’ll mention.) At least until now. 2024 brought us lots of new players. And others a little ‘less new’ that are finding their groove. Here are 8 young brands shaking up the category: 1. Smearcase - Protein-packed Frozen Cottage Cheese. Powered by cottage cheese and collagen, this ‘FroCo’ packs a whopping 40g of protein per pint. 2. Protein Pints. Playing right into the high protein movement, this is an ice cream with the macros of a high protein bar. (Also 88% less sugar than traditional ice cream.) 3. NanaShake. Half smoothie, half frozen dessert; it’s an “anytime” dessert pop that’s healthy enough to eat for breakfast. It’s plant based, gluten free, dairy free, and aaaaalll the healthy things. 4. Ice Cream For Bears. It’s a return to real food with just 4 ingredients: Cream, milk, eggs, and honey. No added sugar. No preservatives. No gums. 5. Acme Valley Ice Cream. The Rolls Royce of ice cream, AV is the highest quality ice cream on the market. It’s non-aerated for a thick, ‘stretchy’ finish; and it’s Fair Trade, locally sourced, and gluten free. 6. Frutero Ice Cream. Right ought of my very own Philadelphia, Frutero was I nspired by Indian tradition, boasting a line of tropical fruit flavors. The first ingredient? Real fruit. The company is also farmer-first. 7. ARCTIC ZERO. The World’s first fava bean ice cream. It’s dairy free, gluten free, low glycemic, and only 160 calories in the entire pint. And yes, real fava beans. Bonus: Alec's Ice Cream. Not new to the space, but moving fast. It’s the OG ice cream brand in regenerative farming, and it also it’s the first A2 dairy ice cream for easier digestion. Big street cred to these entrepreneurs. Frozen comes with massively high barriers.
