Thank you, Northwest Outward Bound School 💙 1965-2024 Over the years, we've had the privilege to work with countless students, educators, and community partners, all united by a passion for outdoor education and the transformative power of nature. Together, we've climbed mountains, camped under the stars, paddled rugged waters, and built a community that values resilience, leadership, and compassion. While this chapter is coming to an end, the spirit of Northwest Outward Bound School lives on in every challenge conquered, every lesson learned, and every friendship forged. Thank you for being a part of our journey. Thank you for being a part of our crew. 🎨: Bridget O'Hara

About us
The End of an Era: 1965-2024 The mission of Northwest Outward Bound School is to change lives through challenge and discovery. With years of innovation in experiential and outdoor education in the Pacific Northwest, Northwest Outward Bound School continues to change lives through challenge and discovery. Whether a student discovers a leadership style, physical fortitude, a love of whitewater, options for the future, the majesty of the outdoors, or compassion for their teammates, these discoveries change his or herself, the community, and the world. No education is complete without Outward Bound. Northwest Outward Bound School operates transformative wilderness educational courses in some of the most dramatically stunning parts of the United States. Our course areas traverse world-renowned rock climbing sites, the longest undammed river in the country, volcanic landscapes, world-class kayaking waters, and some of the only glaciers in the continental United States. While kayaking, backpacking, rafting, canoeing, or climbing in the Cascade Mountains, the Puget Sound, northwest rivers, or Ross Lake, Northwest Outward Bound School students test their strengths, challenge their fears, and discover that they are capable of far more than they ever thought possible.

At the party, we premiered this video, "End of an Era," celebrating the impact & legacy of NWOBS and the people who made it such a uniquely special School. "You can take the person out of NWOBS, but you can't take the Outward Bound out of the person."

It's always a blast having students from The Fellowship Initiative (TFI)! ☀️ 🛶 ✌️ Here's what Ada, our Content Creator, shared from their recent adventures: "Throughout their week on the Deschutes River, these students, part of JPMorganChase's The Fellowship Initiative, in partnership with the Social Justice Learning Institute, had the opportunity to develop new skills, work together to test their limits and boundaries, and reflect on their goals - past, present, and future. One student told me he's excited to take his family outside once he gets home and was surprised by how nice it was to spend the week away from his phone!" #SummerAdventures #NWOBS

🌟 Celebrating 59 Unforgettable Seasons with NWOBS! 🌟 As we shared in our Spring newsletter, the NWOBS Board of Directors made the difficult decision to close the school after 59 years of exceptional programming. Today, as we begin the last month of summer, our belief in the power of Outward Bound remains as strong today as it was in 1965. We celebrate our alumni and instructors who have paddled these rivers and climbed these mountains over the past six decades. We honor our administrative teams who’ve provided key operational support, and we deeply thank our donors who’ve given time and treasure. Together, we have shared adventures filled with courage, determination, and spirit. Thank you all for being part of the NWOBS crew and for making these years so special. Here’s to the countless memories and the incredible community we’ve built together! 🏞️🧗♂️🛶 We hope you enjoy reviewing some of the photos from our NWOBS vault below. ➡️ Read more from our Interim Executive Director here: https://bit.ly/4faSA86 We warmly invite you to keep the spirit of our Outward Bound community alive by engaging with our Kudos Board. Rappelling is all about trust. 🤝 Trusting the rope, trusting each other, and trusting yourself. After 15 days living, expeditioning, and working together, this crew, who joined us for our Oregon Rafting & Rock Climbing course, put their trust and skills to the test on rappel day at Smith Rock! 📸 Photos by: Ada Cohen, Odin Falls Content Creator

🤩☁️ Wow! We still have our heads in the clouds (Literally!) after our recent program with Climbers of Color. Brigette, one of our 2024 Content Creators, shared, "It was an honor to document unforgettable moments on Tahoma with an all-BIPOC crew. Mountain objectives come with their own set of challenges, and seeing this crew navigate them through a BIPOC lens was truly inspiring. Huge thanks to NWOBS and Climbers of Color for fostering this environment for growth." 📸 Here are just a few of the beautiful moments Brigette captured on course with us:

Seize the summer 🌞 Help us fill our final summer expeditions! Thank you for being part of the Northwest Outward Bound School community. For 59 years, our school has offered expeditions and programs across the beautiful and remote landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. Today, we're making our last request for scholarship donations for students to participate in our final 2024 season. Your donation will directly support the scholarship requests that we have received and will help us expand access to students who would not otherwise experience the magic of Outward Bound. Thank you for your enduring support and impact. Donate Today https://bit.ly/4ehBXa2
