The STEM Learning Ecosystems highlights two reports that came out from the The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine regarding #STEM #Education. They validate the efforts of the #ecosystem model, and specifically for #Newark STEM, it reinforces the work we'll kick off at our January convening. Some highlights: "#Partnerships aren’t just helpful, they’re essential for scaling STEM innovation....by providing ‘in-depth insights into how contextual factors influence implementation and outcomes." "Success requires ‘building connected systems of #teachers and #administrators, #curriculum specialists and developers, #technology specialists, community learners and partners, and researchers.’ Both reports emphasize the critical need for robust data systems. The Irvington School District convened it's First Energy Summit and Career Fair at Irvington High School. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education Renew America Grant (RAS), Irvington partnered with PSEG and Siemens Energy to support projects that will be implemented by the District. IPS intends to leverage this project to create new career pathways for IPS students and community members with work-based learning and training in energy efficiency, clean energy, artificial intelligence (AI), and industrial manufacturing based upon the skilled labor needs of NJ-based manufacturers. The district will expand its CTE Engineering Pathway to integrate clean energy and sustainability into the curriculum, while community workshops will promote environmental stewardship. Likewise, IPS maintains advisory councils that include representatives from local businesses, labor unions, and community organizations. IPS will also partner with high-quality pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship readiness programs to facilitate access to career-track training and employment opportunities in the clean energy sector for underrepresented workers. Attendees received real-world insight from Subject Matter experts who provided practical guidance around workforce development through apprenticeships and information for aspiring businesses.
