About us

Founded in 1964, New York Blood Center (NYBC) is a nonprofit organization that is one of the largest independent, community-based blood centers in the world. NYBC, along with its partner organizations Community Blood Center of Kansas City, Missouri (CBC), Innovative Blood Resources (IBR), Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD), and Rhode Island Blood Center (RIBC), collect approximately 4,000 units of blood products each day and serve local communities of more than 45 million people in the Tri-State area (NY, NJ, CT), Mid Atlantic area (PA, DE, MD), the Kansas City metropolitan area, Minnesota, Nebraska, Rhode Island, and Southern New England. NYBC and its partners also provide a wide array of transfusion-related medical services, including Comprehensive Cell Solutions, the National Center for Blood Group Genomics, the National Cord Blood Program, and the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute, which — among other milestones — developed the Hepatitis B vaccine and a patented solvent detergent plasma process innovating blood-purification technology worldwide.

  • This week, New York Blood Center and Rockland County Executive, Ed Day, recognized the remarkable contributions of the Parish of St. Paul-St. Ann for their leadership and commitment in organizing blood drives in Rockland County. The Parish of St. Paul-St. Ann in Congers has contributed nearly 200 units of blood at its 2024 blood drives, and retired county employee Fred Cifuni has made 141 blood donations—more than 17 gallons! During the celebratory blood drive, NYBC was honored to receive a proclamation from Ed Day for the upcoming National Blood Donor Month. It reads, "I encourage businesses, organizations, and community leaders throughout Rockland County to partner with New York Blood Center, among other blood collection institutions, to host blood drives and empower our citizens to give the gift of life." This recognition highlights the incredible importance of our community partners in recruiting new donors and saving lives! Thank you to everyone involved for supporting our mission to ensure a safe and reliable blood supply. 🩸 #CommunityPartnership #BloodDriveCoordinator #RocklandCounty

  • "People's lives rely on every single one of us who is part of this. It's what we do." After a devastating car accident, Alicia's life was saved thanks to a team of doctors, a dozen surgeries, and eight units of generously donated blood. Now fully recovered, Alicia, a mother and an account manager at Memorial Blood Centers (a division of NYBCe), is living proof that it's "in our blood" to be lifesavers. #Teamwork #StaffHighlights #Lifesavers

  • This #GivingTuesday, join us as we honor Heather McNamara, a devoted partner in our lifesaving mission and staunch advocate for blood donation. Heather benefitted from many transfusions during her courageous battle with cancer, and her impact will continue to inspire through the Heather McNamara Scholarship Fund. By making a financial donation to the fund, you'll be supporting our incredible partners who, as Heather did, help run blood drives to ensure lifesaving blood products are collected for those who need them most: bit.ly/3VzHf9t ❤️ You can also honor Heather and schedule your next blood donation to help continue her mission of saving and changing lives. #ScholarshipFund #GivingTuesday #Fundraising #DonateBlood

  • In mid-November, we happily recognized World Quality Week across our organization. This week was filled with fun and interactive content shining a light on various topics such as investigation tactics, continuous growth, FDA Compliance / BPDRs, Inspection Readiness, and Partners in Quality. As the week concluded, the NYBC Quality & Regulatory Affairs (QRA) team celebrated with a luncheon and educational sessions. These sessions highlighted the key takeaways from the week's discussions and provided an opportunity for further engagement and learning. The week served as a reminder of the importance of quality at every level of the organization, and it highlighted the collaborative spirit that drives excellence across the enterprise. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making World Quality Week a success! 🌟 #TeamHighlight #WorldQualityWeek #NYBCe
