Shout-out to MTUK Associate Member Wiggin for co-hosting our Festive Drinks. It was a Christmas party with a difference: Wiggin launched their major 2025 project to map music industry data flows with a presentation on the challenges and complexities of data management. Alexander Ross (Partner, Wiggin) and Peter Mason (Legal Director, Wiggin) highlighted some of the key issues across areas such as repertoire data, royalty data, fan data, music assets, and more. Sara Al Hamad’s (Associate, Wiggin) discussion with Simon Scott (Founder and CXO, Push Entertainment) and Matt Lally (Label Manager, Hospital Records Limited) and a fireside chat with Mark Douglas (CIO, PPL) featured key case studies of innovative rationalisation, collaboration, and legal compliance. The session concluded with a call for better industry collaboration and education to improve data practices. In that spirit, Wiggin has invited further input on its data mapping project, highlighting its reliance on community contributions and the potential for future roundtable discussions. For our next steps, Wiggin and MTUK will: 1. Create a data map to visualise the different types of data, their sources, flows, and ownership. 2. Share the draft data map as a resource on the MTUK website for the community to review and provide feedback. 3. Publish additional resources on the MTUK website about good and bad data, and consumer law issues related to data. 4. Meet with established industry players to understand how they use their data. 5. Hold focus groups to invite people to contribute to mapping out the data landscape. Get in touch if you’d like to collaborate with MTUK and Wiggin on this major project in 2025! #MusicTech #MusicBusiness #MusicIndustry #Innovation #Startup #Founder #Entrepreneur #Data #DataManagement #Metadata #MusicData

Congratulations to MTUK members RoEx for the launch of their next-gen version of Mix Check Studio.
A big moment for the team at RoEx - we’ve launched the next-gen version of Mix Check Studio! Built for musicians and producers, Mix Check Studio has already been used for instant, actionable feedback on over 500,000 mixes. Now with Mix Enhance, it delivers professional-quality audio improvements in minutes. Think brighter, punchier, and a more balanced sound, all without needing audio stems. This is my first product launch with RoEx. It’s been a fun journey bringing this one to life: discussing feedback behind-the-scenes with music makers and industry peers, and exploring human-trained, assistive approaches to AI with the team. For this new version, we’ve also redesigned the interface and report to make refining your sound even easier. If you're into music production, or just curious about assistive AI tools in music, you can check it out here! https://lnkd.in/eafGwrq9

Music Technology UK reposted this
A major chapter in Music Technology UK’s first year was being a partner of Digital Catapult’s BridgeAI accelerator programme. This saw us act as one of four partners to set an industry-specific challenge to AI-innovating startups. We joined the esteemed LADbible Group, Merlin Entertainments, and Bauer Media Group – a pretty impressive selection of names to stand alongside. Our challenge to innovators was to use AI to provide a solution to a core music industry issue. Our three startups did that – and then some. Katie D.’s HypeMuse presents the means to let artists focus on their craft while it simplifies and supercharges their marketing. Matt Amery’s Feedback helps artists to accurately track the royalties owed to them from live performances. And Gameli Ladzekpo’s Flossy AI presents a means for fans to co-create brand-safe content with their favourite artists. It was a proud moment to see them expertly demo at the final showcase event last week. And it was a pleasure to join a panel hosted by Jessica Driscoll on the topic of AI/ML solutions for the creative industries, alongside Alexander Burnet Ward, Ralph Marshall, and Matthew Gibbs. Katie, Matt and Gam now continue to be members of MTUK – and I’m looking forward to seeing their work develop. Thank you to Laura Helm, Ilaria Catalano and Oisín Harrington for inviting us onto this brilliant programme. #BridgeAI #MusicTech #Music #AI

40% of the global recorded music market is now independent artists - but are we giving emerging artists the attention they deserve? In our latest blog, Rubin Patel (Co-Founder, Tenwest) explores the opportunity of the post-music creation economy: emerging artist discovery and development at scale. The numbers are staggering: 🚀 6.4 million DIY creators worldwide 🚀 120,000 songs uploaded to Spotify daily 🚀 1/3 of UK independent music streams coming from DIY artists 🚀 Music industry projected to double by 2030 In this piece, Rubin argues that emerging artists aren't just participants in the music economy - they're the key to its future. He challenges us to focus on building scalable infrastructure that helps them build sustainable careers with recurring revenue. "Fan data is the new oil for the music industry" - but are we using it effectively? In a thought-provoking new piece, Simon Scott (Founder & CXO, Push Entertainment) challenges our industry to rethink how we handle our most valuable asset: fan data. The reality? Labels invest heavily in data infrastructure. Managers protect artist interests. Platforms want direct fan relationships. But working in silos might be holding us ALL back. Simon proposes a collaborative framework including: 1. Transparent Value Attribution 2. Shared Access Protocols 3. Revenue Sharing Models 4. Data Portability Standards Read the full article on our blog to find out more: https://lnkd.in/eAeRgKYa How do you think we can collaborate on fan data while respecting everyone's investments and interests? Here’s 3 key takeaways on raising music tech investment from our ‘Ask the Investor’ event with Ketan Makwana (Chairman, Seventy7 Group): 💡 Stop obsessing over pitch decks! Ketan's top advice: "Before you even think about trying to find money, prove it works and prove somebody's willing to buy it." Your market validation speaks louder than any fancy slide deck. 💡 The music industry needs private equity thinking, not just a VC mindset. Why? PE focuses on business strategy and growth without imposing rigid scaling models. Think tailored solutions, not cookie-cutter approaches. 💡 Remember the 3 P's when pitching: - Product (what problem are you actually solving?) - People (why is YOUR team the one to solve it?) - Profit (show them the money... or at least how you'll make it!) Bonus wisdom: "Think big, start small, scale fast." 📈 What's your take on the future of music tech investment? Drop your thoughts below! ⬇️ #MusicIndustry #MusicBusiness #MusicTech #Entrepreneur #Founder #Entrepreneurship #Startup #Investment #UKTech #Innovation
