Rethinking nuclear policy from the ground up.
About us
Nuclear energy will be needed to reach ambitious climate goals, but we must first reconstruct the technology for a new era complete with modern, socially-grounded approaches. Based on our progressive values, we develop policies to do just that.

I am honored to be quoted in Senator Markey's press release on new legislation to establish an Office of Public Participation at the NRC. It's critical to ensure community voices have a seat in our nuclear regulatory body. Myself and my colleagues at Good Energy Collective would love to see this legislation get to the President's desk. https://lnkd.in/gxWYNFvb

🆕 from Energy Intelligence: Our Communications Director, Michael Mouton, reflects on our founding and the inspiration we drew from the passion and creativity of Green New Deal organizers. Their policy push fostered an environment where “new approaches were welcome” to combat the climate crisis.

Exciting progress in nuclear waste management! This week, Representatives Mike Levin (CA-49) and August Pfluger (TX-11) have introduced the bipartisan Nuclear Waste Administration Act of 2024, marking a significant step towards equitable siting for U.S. spent nuclear fuel. Our policy experts, Cleo Schroer and Julia Sweatman, shared their thoughts: "This bill builds on the core consent-based principles of the Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Energy Future, integrates international best practices modeled by our allies abroad in Canada and Scandinavia, and aligns with what we’ve heard in our conversations with community members across the country. Most nuclear experts agree: a single-purpose, independent federal agency is the best solution for managing spent fuel in America in a way that centers equity and justice."

It was such a pleasure to speak for YOUNGO Energy Working Group today about our work on consent-based siting at Good Energy Collective! Many thanks to my co-panelist Marissa Bell, and to the organizers Bruno Idini, Ela Mesinovic, and Venessa O. for the invitation. Looking forward to furthering this dialogue in coming months!

Today I moderated a panel discussion between Marissa Bell from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Cleo Schroer from Good Energy Collective. The session focused on Nuclear Waste Management, a very important topic that at its core is a social challenge as much as a technical one❗ Thank you both Marissa and Cleo for the great insights you shared, starting from the legacy issues that the industry has typically been associated with, and how the DOE is trying to transform the way in which it manages nuclear waste, and where organisations like the Good Energy Collective step in to scrutinise these processes to ensure equity, sustainability, and trust vis-à-vis the public. 💚 Want to join the next session? Stay tuned on the YOUNGO Energy Working Group channels to learn about future events!

There’s new interest in nuclear power from electric utilities, the White House, and the public. While NuScale Power’s deal to build a small modular reactor failed last year, TerraPower is currently building the U.S.’s first advanced non-light water reactor in Wyoming. So we’re revisiting a Catalyst episode from last November with Good Energy Collective’s Dr. Jessica Lovering unpacking one of nuclear’s biggest challenges: cost. Listen now: https://lnkd.in/eAjEGHnF
