With social tensions growing, the rise of the far right, and ever more alarming climate data, it's easy to look back at 2024 and be disheartened. But at the same time, this year we saw that across the world, there is huge backing for policies that support the wellbeing of people and our planet, now and for future generations. We saw it in the statistics we gathered in the Earth for All Survey - but also in the millions of people who spoke up and took action, whether in the spotlight or in their communities and their daily lives, for justice, equity, and a world where everyone can truly thrive. For 2025, we look forward to continuing to work towards an economic system that works for everyone: towards an Earth for All.
About us
Earth4All is a global collective of scientists, economists, communicators, advocates, with the will to act. The dominant economic thinking and its underlying model are destabilising societies. And the planet. It is time for a change. Earth4All has identified five extraordinary turnarounds needed to create wellbeing for all on a (relatively) stable planet. This analysis combines the best available science with new economic thinking. Five turnarounds to rethink capitalism, move beyond GDP, and bring our societies on a safe pathway to wellbeing for all. We are ready to break with the past, old ideas, and imagine another world. Get involved via https://www.earth4all.life/ !

Human civilisation is on the brink of the next ‘giant leap’ in evolution, says Dr Nafeez Ahmed, member of the Earth4All Transformational Economics Commission and The Club of Rome, and Distinguished Fellow at The Schumacher Institute for Sustainable Systems. However, he warns that progress could be thwarted by centralised far-right political projects such as the incoming Donald Trump administration. In a new study published in the journal Foresight, Ahmed developed a “Planetary phase shift” theory as a new systems framework to navigate the evolutionary transformation of human civilisation. Start the new year off with a glint of brightness on Tuesday 7 January with inspiration from three visionary co-authors of "Earth for All", hosted by author, founder of the Deep Transformation Network and member of The Club of Rome Jeremy Lent. In this free online session, Jeremy Lent will be discussing some highlights of the Earth4All initiative with Sandrine Dixson-Declève, Jayati Ghosh and Ken W., including: - What are crucial levers for eliminating poverty? - What is a Universal Basic Dividend and how could it be implemented? - What are key parameters of a just transition to undo the historical inequities of the global economic and financial system? - What is Earth4All’s strategy for generating transformative policy change? After a brief breakout group period, you will have the opportunity to ask them your own questions. Find more information and the link to join ⏩ https://lnkd.in/dHE_uYHj

🌍 Join Us to Define Sustainable Prosperity in the EU! 🌟 We’re thrilled to invite you to the upcoming event “Defining Sustainable Prosperity in the EU: Towards Indicators Responding to Citizen Aspirations,” co-organized by Pro(to)topia and for Earth4All, and hosted by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). 🗓 Date: January 16, 2025 📍 Location: European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), Rue Belliard 99/101, Room 1040 in Brussels (Hybrid Format) ⏰ Time: 09:30–12:15 CET Why Attend? The new European Commission has made sustainable prosperity one of the seven priorities of its work programme. Yet there has been no democratic discussion yet as to what sustainable prosperity means for Europe. This event seeks to place citizens’ voices at the center of this essential debate. Together, we’ll explore how social, environmental, political, and other indicators can reshape policy and ensure that progress reflects the aspirations of people and the planet. This event also builds on the conclusions of "New metrics for sustainable prosperity: Options for GDP+3", a report coordinated by Pro(to)topia and financed by the European Commission, DG RTD, which proposes a methodology for defining three Sustainable Prosperity headline indicators that go Beyond GDP and calls for democratic participation in their identification. You can check out the report here: https://shorturl.at/WtgDj The agenda features: 💡 Keynotes from thought leaders shaping the future of sustainable indicators, including Sandrine Dixson-Declève, Olivier De Schutter, and Enrico Giovannini 👥 Two engaging panels focusing on people-centered indicators and citizen engagement 🔑 Discussions on addressing inequality and long-term sustainability Whether you join us in Brussels or virtually, your voice matters in this critical dialogue about redefining prosperity for the EU. 🔗 Register here to attend!: https://lnkd.in/eaiUDd2C Let’s build a future of sustainable prosperity that goes beyond GDP and which reflects what truly matters to all of us. #SustainableProsperity #GDPPlus #FutureOfEurope #HybridEvent #NewCommission #BeyondGrowth #BeyondGDP #EuropeanGreenDeal Sandrine Dixson-Declève Olivier De Schutter Peter Schmidt Diana Ognyanova Mario Biggeri Paula Fernandez-Wulff Sylvain Aubry Enrico Giovannini Celine Charveriat Saamah Abdallah

It's been a challenging year for progress on tackling the multiple crises we are facing. But movements advocating for systemic change are gaining momentum. We know that together we have the knowledge, means and public support to take a Giant Leap toward a sustainable and equitable future. Our major survey of G20 countries showed that people across the world's biggest economies: ✅ Understand that we're reaching climate and nature tipping points ✅ Want urgent climate action, this decade ✅ Think that the economy should focus on wellbeing, not just growth. We're not alone on our journey to a fair, safe future for all. Together, we've got this. 🎨 Artwork by Wawawiwa for Earth4All.

The latest Green Economy Coalition survey results align with the findings of our own Earth for All Survey conducted this year - showing that while people want climate action, they are sceptical about leaders' ability to deliver and also show distrust of government more broadly. Learn more about GEC's results ⬇️
🤔 Public (Dis)Trust in Leadership for a Sustainable Future 🌍 Only 41% of people globally trust politicians to make the right decisions for a greener future. While public support for environmental action is strong, many question whether leaders will deliver the change we need. 💡 It’s time for accountability and bold leadership to meet public expectations. 📖 Read more in our report: https://lnkd.in/e_uzdTeh #Sustainability #EnvironmentalAction #GreenEconomy #SustainableLeadership #SustainableFuture

📰 Another of our most-read articles from the blog this year was Lewis Akenji's insight into the 2024 Happy Planet Index and what it tells us about a good life. The latest data shows that in most countries, the top 10% of earners, despite being responsible for around a third of emissions, are the least efficient at converting carbon into health and wellbeing gains. 💸 One of our major headlines this year was new data showing the extent of public support for progressive tax reforms: the Earth for All Survey conducted by Ipsos UK revealed that more than two thirds of people surveyed in the G20 support a range of bold tax policies to transform our economies and lifestyles. Our co-chair Owen Gaffney said of the results: "Our survey results provide a clear mandate from those across the G20 countries surveyed: redistribute wealth. Greater equality will build stronger democracies to drive a fair transformation for a more stable planet." Learn more about our findings ⏩ https://lnkd.in/ggfP8E8Q

"Ecocide is not only a crisis for our dear planet, it is a human crisis". Earlier this month, our Executive Chair Sandrine Dixson-Declève spoke at "A Fifth Crime of Ecocide: Opening Considerations", an official side event to the 23rd Session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. She highlighted the extent of public support for making ecocide a crime: 72% of those surveyed agreed that it should be a criminal offence to approve or commit actions which cause serious damage to nature and the climate. Watch the event recording, moderated by ICC Deputy Prosecutor Nazhat Shameem Khan and featuring Volker Türk, Philippe Sands, Margaretha Wewerinke-Singh, Debbie Buyaki and Darryl Robinson here ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/d5XD27g2
