I had a fantastic time joining Seth Kalkman on Constructive Podcast! Seth is an inspirational project manager who continually explores new topics, all in pursuit of bringing value to community, his team, and stakeholders. His podcast stands out for its unique boots-on-the-ground perspective, tackling what’s actually needed in the industry. He’s interviewed some incredible people, covering a range of topics within tech and the built environment. In our conversation, we covered a lot of ground — from my experiences at Katerra and Rivian to my journey through the AEC industry. I also shared insights about my current project, Surfaice. One of the highlights was discussing Voice of Construction, the monthly AEC podcast digest I started to help professionals discover standout episodes tailored to their interests. Seth and I even ventured into broader topics like clean energy, marketing in the AEC space, and, of course, some fun theories about how the pyramids were built — you know, just casual conversation! It was a great discussion, and I’d love to hear your thoughts. Give it a listen, and let me know what resonated with you! #AEC #Construction #ProjectManagement #BuiltEnvironment #Podcast #VoiceOfConstruction #Surfaice

🎙️ Is Safety First? 🎙️ Here is another highlight from episode 20 with Ken from Dig Robotics. This one #digging into one of the topics we covered about the balance between safety, performance, and cost-effectiveness in construction equipment. Other areas covered in this episode: 🏗️ Background: Ken shares his career journey in construction and Caterpillar, emphasizing his passion for machines and problem-solving. His childhood fascination with machinery led to a 33-year career designing and optimizing heavy equipment. 🔧 Caterpillar and Innovation: Insights into Caterpillar's culture, challenges, and innovations. Ken highlights how technology like grade control revolutionized excavation processes and more. 🌍 Global Influence: Ken’s global assignments shaped his perspective on regional construction needs and the importance of understanding local practices and materials. 🤖 The Role of Dig Robotics: Dig Robotics focuses on improving operator efficiency and reducing rework through kinematics, 3D scanning, and machine learning. The goal is to assist, not replace, operators. 📈Insights/Numbers: 🚜10 Million Machines: The global scale of excavation emphasizes the significant potential impact of automation technologies. 📅Variation in Productivity (schedule): - among experienced operators = 3x - among novice operators = 7x. 💵Variation in Efficiency (cost): - among experience operators = 1.5x - among novice operators = 3x. 🤖Savings with Robotics: At a quarry, Dig Robotics reduced diesel consumption by 20% while increasing material moved. #safety #safetyfirst #budget #schedule #construction

Thank you very much, Noam! This is what happens when an old storyteller like me has a chance to hang out with a modern master storyteller like Seth Kalkman. It was genuinely fun to be on his Constructive Podcast, and I hope our auduence has half as much fun listening to this as we did recording it without even having so much as an outline to guide us. Seth's mentions: Aaron Witt BuildWitt #ConstructionManagement #AI #robotics #excavator Outbuild #Techstars #Techstars24 Techstars Industries of the Future Accelerator Dig Robotics #business #innovation #leadership #mining #contech #construction #earthmoving #toughtech #excavation #startup #startups #bauma #digrobotics
There are incredible swings working in the construction industry, but if you survive it and learn to love it; its quite a ride! Ken G. and I had one of my favorite conversations to date! Ken is co-Founder and Chief Performance Officer at Dig Robotics. Ken spent many years with Caterpillar Inc. becoming the Director of Innovation and after "failing to retire" (as he puts it) he entered the start-up world to try and improve the lives of heavy equipment operators and improve efficiency of dirt moving operations. Our jobs are gonna start getting easier fellow PM'S!
The difference between InspectMind AI and the previous gen of field software (which have still done well, by the way) is instead of just digitizing a paper form we allow you to automate any template including rich, complex technical documents (think 100s or 1000s of pages, photos, captions, technical data, tables, summaries, analysis), not just forms, and on top of that, AI FILLS OUT the form/report for you. So instead of doing manual data entry in the previous generation of field software, you can just take photos and voice notes (or short videos) and AI WRITES the whole report for you. Whether you are in AEC, insurance, real estate, if you're looking at stuff and writing reports (from short and simple daily reports to complex investigations with 1000s of photos) we can automate it with AI and turn days and weeks of work into minutes and hours of review time. As you think about ways to make your company more efficient, saving time and cost, and more importantly being able to use that freed up time to take on more business and make more money, give us a try! We think this is the future of field software, AI-first, and new user experiences and interfaces that aren't just data entry into forms like most SaaS.

Omar Zhan started a Monthly AEC Podcast Digest called, "Voice of Construction" to help AEC professionals find the best podcast episodes to help them learn about the topics they are interested in. I was able to sit down with Omar to talk about his time at Katerra, Rivian and his journey through the AEC industry. Omar is now working on a project called Surfaice which is an AI tool for repeatable project management. We also got to touch on marketing in the AEC industry, clean energy, and even how the pyramids were built. Thanks for checking it out (anywhere you listen to podcasts) and please let me know what you thought! #ConstructionManagement #ConstructionTech #Contech #realitycapture #BIM #AI KATERRA Rivian Trimble Inc. All I can say is... "ECHO" Amen to the below!
Experienced Field Leader & Career Superintendent | Founder & Chief Operating Officer @ Elevate Construction | Leader in Business, Planning, Lean, FPS™, Takt (TPS® as TPSC), LPS®, Supers, FEs, & Foremen
If you are trying to bless the industry & help people, you've felt like this. The combination of sadness & anger in her face is priceless & reflects exactly what it can be like when you want to help, but you are getting pushback on all fronts. In the Game of Thrones series, Daenerys Targaryen is trying to reclaim the throne and break the chains of slavery and oppression for the seven kingdoms. When she finds herself without her original advisors, having lost some of her dragons, & being abused & betrayed at ever turn, she finally goes mad when her most trusted advisor is beheaded in front of her. She could accept the surrender of the city, but in her madness, she burns it to the ground. When I talk about this picture and analogy most people lament the direction the series took with this. It would have been better to accept the surrender and rule with love and compassion. Instead, only madness & death. I am not being dramatic when I say I believe we will all get to points where we want to burn it all down. We started this journey to improve, to help, & to bless the lives of people, but many only care about fame, money, significance, & power, not people. When you learn about Takt, Last Planner®, Scrum, & lean you will come back on fire just to find out that everyone on your team is skeptical, your workers & foremen are so traumatized from the last projects that they do not want any part of it, & that your ownership does not care. I feel like that many times. We have been working for years to publish, share, post, & give everything we can to this industry, only to realize that disrespect for people is as rampant as ever, job sites still disrespect workers, and that CPM is still the favorite of owners to abuse & control their contractors. We even have lean influencers & practitioners selling push & panic in lean clothing. & sometimes I just want to burn it all down and go mad. The reason I am writing this post today on my birthday is because I feel overwhelmed at the hard work all you change-makers are doing to protect people, create stability, & improve our industry. If I had one birthday wish I would ask, "To help me in helping & protecting our workers and foremen in the field, & to help bring back respect to construction." But you are already doing that, & your stories are amazing. So, I want you to know you give me hope. You calm me down. You keep me from going mad. & you make all this worthwhile. Thank you for who you are, thank you for what you do, and thank you for blessing the lives of people. Until we get that this is all about people, we do not get it. So let's keep up the good fight, keep our heads high, stay together, remember we matter to each other, & keep fighting oppressive systems. & let's turn our sadness & anger into a determination to make even more progress & protect even more people. That is what you have done for me. And it means the world. Love, Jason
