About us
When a fire occurs, everyone wants to find answers and know what happened. From the involved owner, occupant, witness, insurance company, general public, and manufacturer of products; they all have an interest in understanding what happened. Having spent over 20 years as a fire investigator in both the public and private sector, John has seen the full life cycle of fire and the devastating effects it can have on those involved. From fire prevention and education, to response through fire department operations, and forensic fire investigations; John draws from formal education and experience in all parts of this cycle to help provide expert answers. Are you tired of complicated and in-efficient assignment acceptance, scheduling, and complicated billing practices? Are you frustrated with having to "manage" your expert and beg for their reports? As the Principal Fire Investigator, John has conducted over 2,500 on-site fire investigations, is a court qualified expert in origin and cause, and has managed those investigations from start to finish. Here at Compass Fire Investigations and Consulting, my pledge to every client is to make this process as seamless and efficient as possible. Through an active partnership on every assignment, you will not have to work through multiple individuals in order to speak to your expert, receive answers to your questions, or "beg" for the report that you need because each assignment is properly managed and guided by an industry leading expert. Compass Fire Investigations and Consulting conducts forensic fire origin and cause investigations, loss control & risk analysis surveys, and Matterport 3D scans. Interesting article on the state of wildland fires in the densely populated northeast. As the article points out, even though these fires are small in comparison to the wildfires experienced in the western states of our country, they are occurring with more prevalence in some of the most densely populated regions. In addition, the structures that are being threatened are regarded as some of the priciest real estate in the country. Is it time to start encouraging homeowners on some of the industry best practices in defensible spaces around their residences and controlling vegetation even in areas that have not traditionally experience wildfires? Should we as fire safety professionals be speaking more about the impact that the change in land use coupled with invasive plants and insects correlate to vulnerability to wildfires? #wildfires

This is becoming an all too familiar course of event as we have been involved with multiple incendiary fires in retail stores in the last several months and years. Keep in mind that even on small fires, it often requires a qualified fire investigator to aide in recoverability. This situation involves three juveniles with two already identified and restitution could very likely be part of the adjudication process. #fireinvestigation
