Telehealth is an essential part of healthcare delivery – and has been upheld as a bipartisan issue, with support from both political parties and across two presidential administrations. But telehealth is now in jeopardy due to political forces threatening to stop a vital year-end funding package that includes multi-year extensions to vital flexibilities that would allow for uninterrupted access to needed virtual care services. At this year’s #ColumbiaMed Holiday Celebration, faculty and staff gathered to enjoy hot tea, sandwiches, and pastries while contributing generously to our annual Holiday Toy Drive. We also held our second gingerbread house competition. 🎁 Over 100 toys were donated during the event, adding to 800+ toys donated at locations around campus. Congratulations to Deputy Chief of Columbia Cardiology, Dr. Shunichi Nick Homma, for being awarded the prestigious "Order of the Sacred Treasure Gold Rays, with Neck Ribbon" by the Japanese Government! 👏 This recognition highlights Dr. Homma’s outstanding contributions to the Japanese and Japanese-American communities through his leadership roles as President of JAMSNET, President of the Japanese American Association of New York, and former President of the Japanese Medical Society of America.

This week marked the launch of the BRIDGE—Columbia University Irving Medical Center's groundbreaking Biobank Resource for Investigating Disease, Genes, and Environment. This state-of-the-art facility will transform biomedical research and accelerate discoveries in to improve patient care! With a generous $8 million The National Institutes of Health grant, Columbia is set to house up to 12 million biospecimens, facilitating pioneering studies research that will enhance precision medicine, and improve health outcomes for our community, and address health inequities. As a pediatric diabetes educator at the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center, Kaylee Seekon, MS, RD, CDN didn't just run in the NYC #marathon for herself, but for a cause that truly matters to her. After a setback last year, Kaylee says she's reminded of the importance of listening to her body and fueling it properly—an insight she applies both in her marathon prep and in her work with patients. #ColumbiaMed recently hosted an event centered around Mental Health Awareness to promote campus mental health resources and enhance the mental well-being of faculty, clinicians, and staff. Attendees participated in a variety of well-being, mindfulness, and relaxation activities, including nature experiences provided by POWER, acupuncture, tai chi, pet therapy, mindfulness breathing techniques, and dance.
