Starting today, native USDC is now live on Celo! This development follows Circle’s partnership with the Celo ecosystem announced last month. Circle, as a global financial technology firm and issuer of USDC, along with the Celo community, are aligned in leveraging blockchain technology for a more open, equitable, and connected financial future. Today’s mainnet integration of native USDC on Celo continues this shared mission, powering payments and access to a stable store of value worldwide. Powerful use cases will be further unlocked on Celo, such as holding savings, lending, disbursing aid, and peer-to-peer and cross-border payments. Additionally, a wide range of ecosystem partners are committed to leveraging native USDC on Celo upon launch, as early as Day 1, including Ammer Pay, Bitmama, Centrifuge, Dunia, Flowcarbon, Fonbnk, HaloFi 😇, Huma Finance, Jia, Kotani Pay, Mento Labs, Quipu, Ramp, Ripio, Roda, Toucan, Untangled.Finance, and Valora. USDC’s integration with Celo mainnet further signals a significant step towards enabling users to pay for the network’s sub-cent gas fees using USDC, an industry first. As one of Celo’s key features includes paying for network gas fees (or transaction costs) with stablecoins for familiar and frictionless payment experiences, core contributors at cLabs will submit a forthcoming governance proposal to include USDC as an accepted gas currency.
