For example, what do you love about working here, or what do you find the most challenging? Be genuinely curious about the company and culture, and allow that interest to shine through.

It's imperative to research the company website for its vision, mission, and latest news. Additionally, if you know someone inside the company, they can provide valuable insights into the culture and the role you're applying for. Ultimately, people join companies to work with other people, so it's important to understand who you'll be working with. Consider whether the company's values align with your own and if the work you'll be doing fits with your career goals. These are the key factors to examine.

Knowing the role and company well will enable you to have a good view of the job at hand. This information is the foundation on which you could possibly ask any question. You could potentially ask questions related to - expectations from you once in the role - future direction of the role / company - any major changes that are under way in the department/function you will be part of

Interviewing for a position should always be a two way street. Both the candidate and the company should be seeking answers and information to what is important and vital to success. Candidates should do research to understand as much as they can and write down questions about whatever is most important to them. Whether it’s culture, travel, company values, leadership style, communication habits….candidates want a company, leader, and culture that fits their work style, professional needs, and key personal dynamics.

To get a true sense of the company's culture, consider asking, "How does the company celebrate successes and milestones?" This question not only reveals the company's values and morale-boosting practices but also indicates your interest in being part of a supportive and celebratory work environment. I challenge you to follow up with an example of how you’ve contributed to a positive work culture in the past, showcasing your commitment to fostering a collaborative and engaging workplace.

A job description shares what the employer expects from an ideal candidate. The candidate if posessing all these qualities, may stilll have a lot of questions. They may be about the climate of the organization, how the organization will support towards his personal growth, how is his contribution/perfomance going to be measured? What is his day going to look like? The company's expectations of him as an individual. Such questions show the amount of interest the employee has in contributing towards the organization and his desire towards self growth.

While you understand the role per se, you also need to understand the 'context' of the role. What are the biggest expectations from the role holder on account of changes that are happening around the role.

Clarity on role expectations helps you prepare effectively and align your efforts with the company's goals. Asking, "What are the key performance indicators for this position?" will provide insight into how success is measured and the metrics you need to focus on. I challenge you to take this further by developing a 30-60-90 day plan post-interview, showcasing your proactive approach to meeting and exceeding these expectations.

As I reflect on the idea of “Growth” within a company, I am reminded that true advancement goes beyond the professional realm. It's not just about climbing the corporate ladder but about nurturing our inner selves as well. When we ask about learning and development opportunities, we should also question how these experiences can help us grow “Spiritually”. How can we align our Personal and Spiritual Values with our career path? By integrating Spiritual Intelligence into our quest for growth, we can achieve a more profound sense of fulfillment and purpose in both our professional and personal lives.

Understanding the timeline and next steps in the hiring process is crucial. Politely ask when you can expect a decision and what the subsequent stages might involve. For example, you could say, "Could you please outline the next steps in the interview process?" This demonstrates your enthusiasm and helps you manage your expectations and follow-up appropriately. It also shows that you are proactive and interested in moving forward, which can leave a positive impression on the interviewer.

I walk into an interview thinking I plan to interview them just as much as they interview me. I do this because I want to make sure not only I match the skills required but they match my values and expectations and I will be happy working there - this is out of respect for the hiring manager and not wanting to waste their time. I research the company, the team and the interviewers as much as possible and I prepare questions but I also sprinkle them during the conversation depending on the flow and because I am naturally inquisitive. My favourite question to ask: imagine you hired me, it’s one year later - what have I achieved that gives you the confidence you made the right decision?

What are your plans to boost customer size, patronage and profit in the face of the harsh economic realities and competition in the business environment?
