Feeling overwhelmed? It’s time to coach yourself first! Start by scheduling “you-time” as non-negotiable in your calendar—burnout doesn’t come from doing too much; it comes from doing too much without replenishment. Practice what you preach: mindfulness, exercise, or even a guilt-free Netflix break. Streamline your workload. Delegate administrative tasks or automate parts of your business to focus on what truly matters—your clients and your passion. Set boundaries—no, you don’t have to reply to every email at 10 PM. Finally, lean on a support system. Even coaches need coaches, mentors, or peers to recharge and gain perspective. Remember, a drained cup can’t pour. Fill yours first, so you can overflow with greatness.

Setting boundaries and prioritising tasks with tools like simple GANTT charts has been vital in managing responsibilities effectively. Delegating tasks, as I did at the Border Health Protection Unit, empowers teams by recognising unique skills, fostering ownership and shared achievement. Continuing education through platforms like Coursera deepens understanding of relevant topics, while reflecting on milestones like revising the NCD strategy provides motivation. Collaboration with peers sparks fresh perspectives, and celebrating wins, such as securing funding pitches, boosts morale. Balancing tasks with long-term goals, mentoring others, and prioritising self-care have been essential in sustaining effectiveness and resilience.

When I feel overwhelmed as a life coach, I remind myself that I can’t pour from an empty cup. I prioritize self-care—whether it’s a quick walk, a cup of chai, or just breathing deeply between sessions. My workout sessions help me stay fit in all ways. I do believe staying organized, setting boundaries, and leaning on my own coach or support system keeps me energized and effective. It is important to often question- Why did I choose this role? Maybe revisit the primary passion.

Set boundaries: Limit sessions and establish clear working hours to protect your energy. Delegate tasks: Outsource admin or repetitive work to focus on coaching. Prioritize self-care: Schedule time for rest, hobbies, and activities that recharge you. Reflect on your purpose: Reconnect with why you started coaching to stay motivated. Avoiding burnout means balancing passion with personal well-being and structured boundaries.

I'd prioritize self-care by setting firm boundaries around my time and energy. I'd schedule moments to recharge and seek support from my mentors. By taking care of myself first, I'd ensure I can give my best to my clients.

Set Firm Boundaries Define clear work hours and limits on session loads to protect your time and energy. Communicate these boundaries with clients to manage expectations effectively. Prioritize Self-Care Commit to daily practices that recharge you, such as exercise, mindfulness, or hobbies. A well-rested mind allows you to deliver greater value to clients. Leverage Tools and Support Use scheduling apps, templates, or hire virtual assistants to offload administrative tasks. Freeing up time for coaching minimizes stress and boosts productivity. Join a Professional Network Engage with peer coaches or mentors for shared learning and emotional support. Collaboration fosters growth and keeps isolation at bay.

Feeling overwhelmed is a sign to pause, reflect and maybe reassess priorities. To avoid burnout, I focus on creating boundaries and maintaining a balance between work and personal life, like clear limits on the number of clients, regular breaks, self-care and connecting with loved ones. I also practice what I teach: I reflect on my own needs, emotions, and goals, using the same tools I offer my clients. By seeking supervision or connecting with peers, I gain perspective and support, which reminds me that even coaches need guidance sometimes. Ultimately, I try to stay aligned with my values and passion. Try to delegate or to automate the rest.
