I think celebrating small wins is really important in empowering our clients. Helps remind them that each step, no matter how minor, brings them closer to their ultimate goal. By acknowledging these victories, I feel we nurture their confidence and reinforce their ability to take aligned action. If they embrace their journey, recognising that progress is a series of meaningful moments that lead to profound transformation; then they feel inspired enough to keep moving forward with hope and determination. ⭐️👇🏼⭐️

What client does or does not do today is directly affecting their future. The coach can help the client connect to their future in one year from now if no real progress happens. Is the client willing to face this future? Likewise, the coach can help the client step into a much different future where the client is so much more happy and content. Is the client willing to move towards this future? The future which is bright can be the best motivator in the present. When we cannot envision and believe in something much better waiting ahead, then we will tend to procrastinate and lack energy and motivation. When we are excited about the future and believe we can get there, the steps are so much easier!

When clients struggle with self-motivation, life coaches can inspire progress by connecting goals to personal values. For instance, a client overwhelmed by career demands might reframe tasks as steps toward their dream of financial stability. Coaches help clients revisit past successes, showing how their resilience can guide current challenges. A client hesitant to start exercising may begin with a five-minute walk, proving small actions can create momentum. Celebrating these wins builds confidence, making progress tangible. Effective coaching empowers clients to recognize their agency, transforming obstacles into opportunities for growth.

Try to find what motivates them. Maybe they pay you extra when they don't do their homework. It might sound self serving, but it would get their attention. A more ethical approach may be that they have to make a charitable donation if they don't complete an assignment. Sort of like the "Swear Jar" that some companies/families have. Ideally, they should chose what the penalty should be. Then they are in control of what they do, and what they don't do.

I think when a client struggles with self-motivation, it’s important to inspire them in a way that feels achievable and empowering. Start by breaking their goals into smaller, clear milestones—they'll feel the progress and build momentum. Celebrate their wins, no matter how small, to boost their confidence and remind them of their capabilities. Lastly, foster accountability through regular check-ins that focus on progress and overcoming challenges. Motivation grows when clients see their efforts leading to real change.
