Do your people keep missing deadlines? 1) don’t scold them because scolding and blaming can’t reverse the misses. 2) understand their schedule and observe to see whether the workload is the cause of the miss. If it is about the workload, sit down with your team and see how to support and clear some of the things so that they can focus. 3) cultivate time management skills within your team. Teach your team how to be efficient and disciplined in their work just like you do. 4) have a work progress tracking system so you would know whether there’s anyone who is missing their deadlines and able to intervene before the miss. 5) be clear with your rules, punish those who always miss, and reward those who perform.

As a HR professional, I have found success lies in the 3C approach: 'Connect', 'Clarify', 'Coach'. First, understand their challenges through a open dialogue. Then, establish clear expectations with realistic timelines. Finally, provide the tools & support while holding them accountable. This balanced approach typically transforms performance while maintaining dignity.

One thing I've found helpful is discovering the root cause before jumping into conclusion. Have a one-on-one discussion with the team member, pose open ended questions to understand the cause. Secondly, provide clear expectations. Sometimes missing deadlines could be caused by the misunderstanding of what the requirement is. Lastly, offer support and focus on solutions and not blame.

I will do the following things: 1. I will get on a one on one call to understand better what the team member has to say regarding these missing deadlines. 2. If their reasons are actually genuine I will see if I can reduce their task list due to reasons being genuine. 3. If their reasons are not so genuine, I will still first ask them how can I help them in reaching their deadlines on time going forward. 4. If all the above ones still don't apply then I will finally remind them that they missing the tasks is hampering the overall team performance.

Moral Support : It is very much important for a manager to know their subordinate well. For me if one of my staff is missing deadlines repeatedly, then I will sit down with him/her. Will allow the staff to express him/herself in detail. By having this table talk I might get to know issues happening in the surrounding or I might get to know about the person itself. Now, depending on the communication I will have to come up with some favourable solution. We have to always keep in mind that we are the team leaders, we are the manage-ers and so we have to act like one, no matter what situation it be we should have that capacity to solve, analyze and uplift our staff.
