Many of us are already busy swimming against the flood - sometimes literally, given the Dutch weather 🌧️ - of catch-up emails or meetings. But which is worse? It was a close split when we asked you in our last Tuesday Dilemma poll, with 𝟱𝟲% of you preferring to take the email overload. (Though ironically yes, many of these endless meetings probably could've been an email 😅). 💡 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 💡 We've all experienced the productivity hit from these issues, but the wider stats are sobering 👇 📧 European employees on average spend 𝟮.𝟱 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 on emails - 𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝟭/𝟯 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗱𝗮𝘆 gone! ⏳ Every email distraction then costs 𝟮𝟯 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 (McKinsey, UC Irvine). 🗓 Overly frequent, unstructured meetings hit job satisfaction hard, as they can leave employees feeling disconnected from meaningful work and out of control with their time (Microsoft). Translate those lost minutes into billable hours, or the long-term impact on employee engagement and retention. You'll see how the opportunity cost of excessive emails or meetings stacks up quickly for your organisation. 💰 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀? Make comms 𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲, and focus on 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝗶𝘀𝗲, 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 🔕 • 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀: Save emails for when heavy context or a paper trail is needed. Use IM for quick questions or updates. Fewer CCs and clearer messaging = less back-and-forth. • 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿: Prioritise doing less, 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳. There's only 4 real reasons to have a meeting: to solve a problem, make a decision, co-create/share knowledge, or build relationships. No clear purpose? Skip it. When meetings do happen, have clear agendas, limit attendees, and respect timings. • 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲: Working in P&C basically means being the company juggler 🤹. We're constantly asked to solve others' problems, meaning we also need to keep shifting focus from our own tasks. But focus time = the magic zone for meaningful work, so protect this where you can. Implement "No Meeting Fridays", block quiet hours in your diary (while muting notifications during this time), and make clear that headphones on = "Do Not Disturb".    And remember, everyone has different communication preferences.     Warning - cheesy 🧀 end of year post: 2024 was the year we proved '𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀' isn't just a fancy consultant phrase - it's a mission that transforms how people experience work. Spoiler: It involves a lot of kindness, zero micro-managing, and possibly a few amazing cocktails at our team meetings 🍸 This year, 7people went from a dream to a reality that's reshaping how startups and scale-ups think about People & Culture. But let me be real - it wasn't all smooth sailing. Building a team that truly gets our mission? That took 1200+ applications and more coffee than I care to admit 😅. → 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘀 1. Grew from solo founder (in '21) to a team of 15 incredible humans in '24. 2. Besides our core team, we worked with 11 'besties' - our trusted zzp-ers whom we can't do without anymore (you know who you are) 3. We supported 50+ organizations THIS YEAR in creating cultures where people actually want to do their best work ever. 4. Proved that HR can be both strategic AND kind 5. We passed the €2mil revenue mark 6. Multiple of our clients raised funds or had a successful exit 7. We helped 20+ people & culture professionals make a professional move!     To our wonderful 7people community ✨ It’s almost a wrap for us this week 🎁.
