New figures show that 58% of people in the UK feel lonely at least sometimes, potentially putting them at risk of fraud. In addition, 1 in 4 people say there isn’t someone in their life that they would talk to if they thought someone was trying to scam them. Our latest blog explores the link between loneliness and risk of fraud, particularly at Christmas which can be a lonely time for many. 

Expecting lots of deliveries? 🎁 Criminals send fake text messages in the hope you are waiting for a parcel to arrive. They want you to click on links which could download malware to your device and steal your information. Instead of clicking the link, log into your account directly to update or check your delivery. If you receive a scam text message report it by forwarding it to 7726. #TakeFive #StopChallengeProtect

Christmas can be a lonely time for many people and criminals can exploit this. They might offer friendship, romance or help with your bills – taking advantage of the emotions of the season to build trust and manipulate people. This Christmas, we’re encouraging everyone to #TakeFive if someone asks for your money or information. ✋ Stop: Take a moment to stop and think before parting with your money and information. ☝️ Challenge: Ask yourself – could it be fake? Have you been asked to pay an upfront fee for a package? Amidst all the Black Friday and Cyber Monday purchases, criminals might try to take advantage and ask for an upfront fee for delivery. Always stop and think, does their information match with that of the legitimate seller’s tracking information. #TakeFive
