  • We are delighted to support the Literary Laughs charity event for the 9th year. Again funds are being raised for StandOut a charity that supports people while in prison and during the transition to life outside. Giving them the skills and confidence to build a life beyond the justice system. Earlier this year our ECD Andrew Nicholson was fortunate enough to see StandOut’s amazing work in action when he attended a graduate ceremony in Wandsworth Prison. Wishing all the quiz teams the very best of luck and that lots of money is raised for this worthy cause.

  • Welcome to part 1 of our series on marginal gains in healthcare communications for a world with decreasing attention spans. Go short, then go shorter In our world brevity is everything. Once you’ve written something, halve the word count. Really, 50% less… is so much more. Avoid title case – FYI This is Title Case Title case makes sentences slower to read and process. Motorway signs are lower case so we can read them at 70mph. Minimise punctuation Extra punctuation slows the reader (e.g. this would be quicker without the brackets and full point). • What has British cycling got to do with healthcare communications? In a world where attention spans are decreasing, how do we minimise the brainpower patients and healthcare professionals need to take in, remember and act upon health information? After all, lot can go wrong for us if we don’t make it easy for HCPs and patients to ‘get it’. Let’s be inspired by former Performance Director of British Cycling, Dave Brailsford. He used the ‘aggregation of marginal gains’ to transform British cycling. This is the philosophy of searching for tiny marginal improvements in everything you do. Multiple 1% improvements build to make a transformational difference. In this series of posts, we’ll be sharing some of the marginal gains we use at Wordbird to make it marvellously easy for health audiences to say ‘I get it’. • When we work in our strengths, we do our best work. Time flies. We get into flow and things feel easy. Great teams know their individual strengths and those of their team. This insight is super valuable and super-easy to gain. The word strength is from the old German word strengida. There are lots of meanings, but we like the definition that includes ‘to manifest energy’. At Wordbird we need to bring tons of energy to support our clients in making a difference for patients and healthcare professionals. For the last 12 years we have held an annual Strengths Day, based on the Strengths Profile tool. After completing our individual profiles, we get a team profile. Since our business is to solve communication challenges for our clients, we could not be more thrilled to learn that, this year the Wordbird team top strengths are: RESOLVER - we are all about finding creative solutions PRIDE - we do our best work ORGANISER - we always have a plan to make everything happen in the way our clients need As you can see from the pictures these team days are very creative and fun! Get in touch if you’d like us to put our super strengths to work for you.
