In July, I attended a Women in Finance Group tag rugby event. I thought I'd pop in, show support, mingle with a few key people, then get back to work. What I didn’t expect was to fall in love with the sport and end up pursuing rugby as a serious hobby. Although contact rugby was my preferred choice, without that initial tag rugby event, I would have never considered rugby at all 🏈 Now, I train twice a week, play in a competitive league, and have matches every other weekend. I play flanker (7), and I’m proud to say I won Player of the Match last week, with our team currently in 1st place in the league 💪 This experience reminded me that if we go into networking events with only a business agenda, we’re potentially missing out on the rest. The new friend, the next mentor, the unexpected hobby—these are all part of the networking journey too. From this event, I gained a wonderful new friend (shoutout to Margarida Branco Ferreira, CAIA) and discovered a sport I love, one that’s improved my well-being and connected me with a new community.
