Not every project we do attracts the attention of King Charles! Congratulations to Wemyss and March Estates, Socially Conscious Capital, Ed Taylor, Ben Pentreath Ltd, Cruden Group and Places for People on winning The King’s Foundation Landowner Award. Working alongside the above, we helped to deliver a beautiful courtyard of affordable housing specifically designed for older people and those living independently with dementia. The project plays a critical part of this mixed neighbourhood and embraces King Charles’s philosophy of harmony, illustrating and understanding the balance, order and relationships between us and the natural world and creating a more sustainable future. Congratulations also to Rob Illingworth who won the Key Role Award. Our project at the former St. Kentigern’s Church, Edinburgh has been nominated for Build to Rent Development of the Year at the Scottish Property Awards. Working closely with Lar Housing Trust, the proposals allowed for the careful restoration of the existing church, once in disrepair, to form four unique townhouses, all of which pay respect to the previous use of the building through retention of key architectural features. Alongside the church restoration, 10 new flats were also built. Each flat provides bright, spacious accommodation overlooking the Union Canal. We’re delighted to end the year with a shortlisting for our project at Buccleuch Street, Dalkeith, in the Regeneration Project of the Year category in the Scottish Property Awards. Located at Buccleuch Street, Dalkeith, this mixed-use town centre development provides six Passivhaus certified flats with the existing street facing building refurbished to provide four flats above two retail units. The development not only promotes strong environmental credentials by providing low-energy affordable housing to Passivhaus standards but also promotes social sustainability through revitalisation of an existing town centre building, encouraging people to live and work within the town centre. Our team delivered Christmas boxes of special treats for children, as we have done for the past couple of years, in support of our local charity the Citadel Youth Centre last week. The Citadel provides support to local families and offer a varied programme of play, activities, and educational opportunities designed to encourage, develop & reinforce their skills and self-image and supportive environment. Their youth workers are on hand to offer advice and support to anyone who needs it. A huge thank you to our colleagues who donated so generously. We hope that these goodies will make the children’s Christmas a little bit more special. #charity #seasonforgiving #community #edinburgh

We’re really enjoying the number of aerial photos we get on projects. Our client Cruden Group has recently provided us with some aerial photos of the progress being made at our West Craigs project, specifically Plots 4 & 5. With the project nearing completion and around a third of homes now handed over, the progress is clear to see. 🌴 We’re really pleased to share we’ve reached key milestones in the restoration of our iconic Grade A Listed Palm Houses: - Almost all the arched windows have been installed. - The south spiral ironwork staircase has been fully reinstalled, with the north staircase now in progress. - Paint removal is now complete, and repainting is progressing well. - Scaffolding has been removed around the ‘crows nest’. So much progress has been made – but there’s still a lot of work to do. This #GivingTuesday, donate to our Save the Palm Houses appeal and help us get closer to our goal of reopening the buildings, which have been part of Scotland's heritage for almost 200 years: https://rbge.cc/palmhouses

I had an enjoyable and interesting day in Perth yesterday at the Scotland's Towns Partnership annual Conference. A particular highlight was Maria Jaakkola's talk on her experience in Helsinki - another destination to add to the bucket list! #stc2024 #perth #scotlandstowns Smith Scott Mullan

Ben and Jamie attended the opening night of Christmas at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, illuminating trail last week. The trail, created by award-winning, internationally acclaimed light trail producers, is botanically themed and makes the most of their setting in one of the world’s top four botanic gardens. Worth seeing for the mycelium alone! Read more about our work at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh here: https://lnkd.in/esFaVAnW #RoyalBotanicGardenEdinburgh #ChristmasAtTheBotanics24 #Edinburgh
