  • 🎉 SCS team ends 2024 with a Bang! 💥 The entire Skanska Costain STRABAG Joint Venture team is celebrating a can-tastic achievement as we successfully completed a 5-mile tunnelling drive under the capital. Yesterday, our giant Tunnel Boring Machine, Sushila (named after a local schoolteacher) became the first of four to reach the Green Park Way vent shaft breaking through into a special steel reception can to prevent the shaft from filling with water. This complex and innovative engineering operation reflects the expertise and hard work of the many teams involved in the tunnelling programme. Since launching in October 2022, TBM Sushila has: ◾ TBM Sushila has excavated over 1.2 million tonnes of earth ◾ Installed 4217 tunnel rings. 🙌 A huge shoutout to every team member who worked 24/7, around the clock, to make this moment possible. Your dedication and hard work have led to HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd's fourth major breakthrough this year! 👉 Get the full press release - https://lnkd.in/dtN4CtsM #PassionateAboutExcellence #TunnelBreakthrough #OneTeamSpirit

  • 1️⃣ We’re wrapping up the first week of our Safety Step Up programme, led by HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd. Why is everyone at Skanska Costain STRABAG Joint Venture taking part in Safety Step Up? Because no matter where we are in the supply chain, or whether we work day shift or night shift, every single one of us is responsible for safety. We all have a duty to Step Up. This week, at each of our 23 sites, everyone engaged in the programme-wide safety conversation. We spoke candidly about our individual and shared efforts to improve safety and prevent harm. We discussed the risks of hazardous energy and working from height. We talked openly about the new health and safety challenges we face as the project enters the next phase. Above all, we listened to and learned from each other on how we make our shared workplaces safer and healthier. This week also saw the launch of our dedicated SCS Hazard School - take a look 👇🏼 Next week, we'll continue our Safety Step Up, and focus on two key risk areas: Plant People interface and lifting.

  • 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿A warm croeso welcome to our visitors from Wales! Skanska Costain STRABAG Joint Venture today welcomed 50 engineering students and lecturers from Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd to our iconic Victoria Road Crossover Box [VRCB] superstructure in west London. Aspiring engineers met with our senior engineers, who explained the complex engineering and design features of this huge underground structure. Our visitors also learned how, earlier this year, VRCB served as the launch point for Emily and Anne, our two tunnel boring machines [TBMs] building Northolt Tunnel East for HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd. Giving students an opportunity to go behind the hoarding of our infrastructure megaproject is just one of many ways we encourage and inspire the engineers and tunnellers of tomorrow.
