Providing prevention, protection and response services across the county of Berkshire.
About us
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service provides prevention, protection and response services across the county of Berkshire. 12 wholetime and six on-call fire stations cover 486 square miles, from Langley in the East to Lambourn in the West. It serves a diverse cultural population of 905,800, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The role of RBFRS within local communities is evolving. A wide range of services help keep communities safe, including safety and protection advice to residents and businesses, as well as enforcing fire safety legislation and reducing fire risk in the built environment. This is in addition to highly skilled crews providing a swift and effective response to incidents ranging from road, rail, aviation and waterway accidents, to fuel and chemical spills, collapsed buildings, large animal rescues and, of course, fires. RBFRS is under the direction of a combined Royal Berkshire Fire Authority, which is made up of representatives from the county’s six unitary authorities. RBFRS also works alongside Thames Valley Police, South Central Ambulance Service, Public Health, and other public service providers in Berkshire. In doing so, it is helping to contribute to the overall safety of the communities it serves, whilst still providing a value-for-money service to the local taxpayer. Berkshire and Reading Fire Brigade was formed in 1948 and was later renamed in 1974 to Royal Berkshire Fire Brigade. The organisation was established following centuries of evolution in firefighting strategy across the UK and renamed Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service in 1985. The fire service was then removed from local authority control in 1998 and was placed under the direction of an independent Royal Berkshire Fire Authority – which is made up of representatives from the county’s six unitary authorities.

We were pleased to support the Bracknell Christmas Toy Bank this year. After arranging a collection at Bracknell Fire Station, last week our White Watch crew delivered a number of generous donations including books, toys and games to the Bracknell toy bank, in time for Christmas. The service was then available on Saturday, 14 December at the Involve community services centre in Bracknell Thank you to everyone who very kindly donated to the collection at Bracknell Fire Station to help provide presents to children in need this Christmas.

In late November, Red Watch crews from Newbury, Wokingham and Maidenhead fire stations visited Thatcham Research to gain experience working with emerging vehicle technologies. This followed a similar visit in August when Green Watch firefighters from Newbury, Wokingham and Theale responded to an incident involving a simulated thermal runaway. Thank you to Thatcham Research for inviting our crews to practice responding to incidents involving the latest electric vehicles. #OneTeamForBerkshire

Today, we said farewell to Paul Bremble, our Area Manager for Corporate Services, who is retiring after 30 years of service in Oxfordshire and Berkshire. Paul joined Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service in May 1994 and spent most of his career working in various roles over the border. Paul joined us in 2022 as our Head of Corporate Services, leading several key projects during his stint in the Royal County. Throughout his career, Paul has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to public safety and was presented with a ceremonial axe in recognition of his efforts by Nikki Richards, Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Corporate Services. Thank you Paul for your hard work in support of our communities. We wish you all the best in your retirement! #OneTeamForBerkshire

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service reposted this
Today at their station in Bracknell, the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service ran a major casualty training scenario for the duty crews from Bracknell, Slough and Maidenhead. Working together with members of Thames Valley Police , they implemented JESIP principles to deal with a dozen casualties at the scene of a three-vehicle road traffic collision. For realism, the casualties were played by our Level 3 Year 2 Uniform Protective Services students who had had appropriate injuries and makeup applied to them by Guildford College Level 2 Media Makeup students. The day was an excellent example of our students from different colleges, and the emergency services coming together, interacting, sharing ideas and skills and importantly learning from each other. We hope to be able to support similar emergency service training scenarios like the one done today in the future. Discover our Public Services courses: https://bit.ly/4gcpTYo
