🎯 Project Milestone 🏗️ We’re excited to share a major achievement at Henriksen Studio! The #PalmerstonCourt project has successfully passed the airtightness test, securing Passivhaus certification on 13 December 2024. As the tallest Passivhaus building in the UK and the largest Passivhaus project in the London, this milestone represents a significant leap forward in sustainable design and construction. A big congratulations to our client, urbanest UK, on this outstanding purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) development. It’s been a pleasure working alongside Mace and Allford Hall Monaghan Morris and we extend our thanks to MosArt for their invaluable support throughout the journey. Stephen Good, CEO of BE-ST and Co-Chair of the Building Standards Passivhaus Equivalent Working Group, responds to the Scottish Government's update on the review to introduce a Scottish equivalent to the Passivhaus standard. "Having had the privilege of co-chairing the Passivhaus Equivalent Working Group over the past 18 months, I’ve seen first-hand the exceptional collaboration that has taken place by all working group members to explore options, address challenges, and pragmatically work towards a viable strategy for implementing new Passivhaus Equivalent Standards in Scotland. These standards will help us deliver the very best buildings we can, that are affordable, comfortable, sustainable, healthy, and help contribute positively to our net zero obligations. The devil is, as always, in the detail, and that detail will become clearer through 2025, but the clarity around the legislative process that is now in place, with opportunities for further consultation next year, and with the Working Group committed to continue to collaborate and support the evolution of the standards, the direction of travel looks to be a positive one. BE-ST will continue to support the industry in preparing and adapting to new standards through training, knowledge exchange, and advocacy, and this will continue in parallel with Scottish Government’s processes through 2025 and beyond. Our goal is to equip the sector with the skills and knowledge needed to meet and exceed building standards, be those Passivhaus or otherwise, by facilitating the upskilling of professionals through hands-on training, fostering collaboration, and preparing for the opportunities this transition brings." We’re delighted to end the year with a shortlisting for our project at Buccleuch Street, Dalkeith, in the Regeneration Project of the Year category in the Scottish Property Awards. Located at Buccleuch Street, Dalkeith, this mixed-use town centre development provides six Passivhaus certified flats with the existing street facing building refurbished to provide four flats above two retail units. The development not only promotes strong environmental credentials by providing low-energy affordable housing to Passivhaus standards but also promotes social sustainability through revitalisation of an existing town centre building, encouraging people to live and work within the town centre. What's in a name? | Beth sydd mewn enw? The name "Tai ar y Cyd" is rich in symbolism and meaning, encapsulating the deep-rooted Welsh values of community, unity, and shared purpose. In Welsh, "ar y cyd" translates to "together" or "collectively," reflecting a powerful sense of collaboration and mutual support. This name emphasises that these homes, or "tai", are not merely individual buildings but rather symbols of a shared endeavour. At our launch event on the 15th of January 2025, we’ll be coming together with industry experts and thought leaders for inspiring talks, engaging workshops, and thought-provoking panel discussions. _____ Mae'r enw "Tai ar y Cyd" yn gyforiog o symbolaeth ac ystyr, gan grynhoi gwerthoedd Cymreig dwfn o gymuned, undod a phwrpas a rennir. Mae’r enw yn adlewyrchu ymdeimlad pwerus o gydweithio a chyd-gefnogaeth. Mae'r enw hwn yn pwysleisio nad adeiladau unigol mo’r cartrefi hyn, neu dim ond "tai", ond yn hytrach eu bod yn symbolau o gyd-ymdrech. Yn ein digwyddiad lansio ar 15 Ionawr 2025, byddwn yn dod at ein gilydd gydag arbenigwyr y diwydiant ac arweinwyr agweddau ar gyfer sgyrsiau ysbrydoledig, gweithdai diddorol a thrafodaethau panel i ysgogi'r meddwl.
