What a fantastic first week of Leeds Digital Festival – it’s no wonder #LDF24 has gained status as the UK’s largest ‘open’ tech event in the UK. 💥 Leeds leading the way with digital health innovation world-firsts 💥 It was great to attend Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust’s Innovation Pop Up Digital Innovation Club, chaired by Richard Evans, exploring how the city’s world-renowned research and innovation infrastructure is developing technologies for improved care. We heard how cutting-edge digital technologies such as #AI, #3Dprinting, remote monitoring technologies and many more are being tested, evaluated and adopted across the Trust, supported by the NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre and the NIHR Leeds Clinical Research Facility. 💡The session underlined the world-leading role Leeds is already playing – including pioneering work on scleroderma from Prof. Francesco Del Galdo, and groundbreaking use of 3D modelling at LTHT. Biomedical Engineer Lisa Ferrie described how this year, Leeds’ surgeons were the first in the UK to remove a cavernous sinus tumour endoscopically, bringing the Trust in line with just one other unit in Spain performing this novel technique. 💡LTHT’s Rob Child, Camilla Gow and Ruby Ali described how Leeds is one of the most mature Trusts when it comes to using robotic process automation (RPA). Here, RPA is offering an extra pair of 'digital hands' to help people do what they do best – bring uniquely human skills to caring services – saving more than 51 yrs in work time and £1million in cost efficiencies since launching in Sept 2020. 💡Senior Sister Alessia D’Angelo described how remote monitoring on virtual wards is making a significant, positive difference to people pre- and post-operatively. This holistic care and support at home via remote ‘ward rounds’ supports patient flow across busy hospital units. It has also saved more than £680k and 2,000 bed days for the Trust since it began in Nov 2023. 💡 Sue Pavitt and Claire Eckert shared inspiring research from Rachael Jablonski, whose IMPRESSeD study has transformed facial prosthesis by listening and engaging with people following facial cancer treatment. 💥 Looking ahead to another week of amazing events across the LDF programme!💥 ❗In response to demand, we've opened up more places for our exciting event on Monday 23 Sept: Our Partnership Director Kate Lodge will chair a prestigious panel of senior leaders: ✳ Prof. Phil Wood, Chair of Leeds Academic Health Partnership & CEO of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust ✳ Richard Irvine, Chief Data Officer Leeds City Council & NHS West Yorkshire ICB ✳ Megan Rowlands, Programme Director, HomeFirst ✳ Dr Neville Young, Director of Enterprise & Innovation, Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber 🎟 Book now: ‘In the face of global challenges, partnership is our superpower’: https://lnkd.in/e7P67kM5
