We are absolutely thrilled to launch our summer activities and our partnership with Yorkshire Wildlife Park Ltd. Visitors to Lakeside Village Outlet Shopping's Wildlife Discovery will enjoy a series of animal themed activities at the centre throughout the school holidays. Activities including crafts, workshops and story time will focus on a different animal theme each week. We are really excited thrilled to be working with Yorkshire Wildlife Park in 2024 and as part of our partnership, we’ve installed an animal trail around the centre. Customers will be invited to find the big six animals – Rhino, Zebra, Tiger, Lion, Giraffe and Polar Bear and the Village Green at the centre has been revamped with animal themed seating, perfect for social media snaps. Our free summer cinema will return each Thursday in August with films being shown at 2pm and 5pm and, you guessed it, each film will be animal themed! We know that our customers enjoy our free family fun activities, and it is wonderful to be working with a popular local visitor attraction to raise awareness of their conservation efforts as part of this partnership. Our activities will begin on July 22 when we have our own Polar Bear themed week. Volunteering comes in many shapes and sizes and here at Lakeside Village we know how important volunteers are – we’ve seen over the years the huge difference they make to the charities we’ve fundraised for. Without their volunteers they wouldn’t be able to run events, hold their raffles, host a stall and get out and about into the heart of the communities they serve. This Volunteers Week we want to say thank you to all of those volunteers for the difference they make. This year four members of the management team at Lakeside Village Outlet Shopping donated their time to help our local children’s hospice. We have worked with Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice over many years, and we know what a significant difference they make to families in our region. We’ve fundraised for them at the centre, and we decided that wanted to also give our time, as we know that this can be a precious commodity to a charity. So, armed with bundles of enthusiasm, we spent the day at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice helping to sort and organise the charity’s fundraising area. We had a really interesting day helping them to audit their fundraising stock and prepare items for raffles and tombolas. It was great to see the donations that people make and auditing the stock we were able to help them see what they had and what they needed to make the most of fundraising at events. Giving time can be just as valuable as giving money to some charities and we hope that the work we’ve done will help them with their fundraising efforts in the future. As a team we also volunteer our time to go out and about in the area around the centre to litter pick. We decided a few years ago that this was an important thing for us to do. We take pride in hour clean and well looked after the centre is and we wanted to make a difference to the areas around us. So, we put on our high vis waistcoats and grab our pickers and bin bags and we encourage others to join us in our efforts to tidy up the side streets and grassy areas around the centre. There is a real sense of satisfaction when we meet back after a litter pick and see all the bags we’ve collected. It might seem like a small act, but it does make a difference and that’s what volunteering is all about, making a difference.
